They are doing a follow up procedure on a threat that was made from a student from a different high school. Its only the highschool they are doing the lock down on. Everything is fine. Noone is in real danger.

The threat was made last week and the school just wants to make sure everyone knows what to do in case the situations comes up again.

According to a secretary it is much worse than a threat. If it was a threat from last week then why would they have everyone in a panic. Especially with what has happened recently. Does not add up. Hope everything turns out to be okay.

I don't think this is just a follow up.
Why would they call parents and say there was threat made and there is police at the school and if you would like to pick your child up from any school feel free to do so. It could be nothing but some kid making a "joke" but either way, I don't think this is just some follow up from last week.

If it is some follow up from last week, the school did a really bad job of informing parents.
I call my sons middle school and they said nothing of this being a follow up at all and they are being bombarded with calls and kids being removed from the school.

After last week, I wouldn't take any chances.

police are in full force atthe high school and the highschool only...though the school district has said that you may pick your kids up from any school in the district if you call ahead..

it may be a mere rumor..but my kids said some smart ass made some sort of gun threat at the high school...

they were not sure if there was one (real or fake) found...or if it was just some kid talking out of their ass...

Daughter just called me and said that there was an announcement just made that they have some kid in custody...he either brought a gun to school or made the threat he was going to but the announcement said that the police have someone in custody.

I saw this post and contacted my daughter - she said school has not been dismissed. I would like to thank the school district and the GCPD for their quick action today...no matter if it was just some kid making a empty threat...no chances can be taken, especially now...they were on it as soon as they were made aware and ensured our children were safe and secure

I got the call and made arrangements for my child to be picked up, it's sad that we have to worry about this and it's a shame. Real or empty threats I'm glad they took it seriously and acted quickly!

Im a GCHS senior, and am one of few that are still at school. Apparently there was a gun threat of some sort, with a rifle. But the kid that they were blaming/accusing was not in attendance today, so they went to his house and took him into custody. We are not and never were on "lockdown" we were on a tightened security.
Lockdown- no one leaves the classrooms, no one in the halls at all.
Tightened security- only one door being used for entering and exiting. All other exits are locked and monitored.
Everything is clearest but HUNDREDS of kids are being called out. The phone lines are busy, and parents are lined up outside.

I am very thankful that all the kids are safe.
Thank you to the GCSD, GCHS and GSPD for the quick respose. This could have turned ugly if nothing was done.

Also today, there was a report of at least two kids in possession of a bb gun (NO, IT WAS NOT RED RYDER'S!) at an elementary school in Washington Park. I know some wiseacre is going to make some comment about that on account it's close to Christmas. There is a story about it in the Belleville paper (online version).
