Granite City Cinema

I reside in the downtown area of Granite City. I enjoy seeing improvements down here. I love the fact that the camera's are up and have been since we finally elected a great mayor of Granite City. The cinema is a great asset to our town. We no longer have to drive so far to see a movie. And when we do attend the Granite City Cinema, we are spending our money in Granite City, our town. We should be supportive of our city, instead of going elsewhere and supporting other cities. And as far as downtown goes, we don't have the prostitutes around since the camera's have gone up. They were once like cock roaches until our new mayor stepped up to the plate. I do not consider my house anything other than my home, I do not consider any other part of Granite City any better or worse than another part of Granite City. Our city, our neighborhoods are what we make them. If you allow drugs, prostitutes etc in your neighborhood that is failing on your part to put a stop to it. If you go to our mayor and let him know what is going on I know he will take care of the problem. He has helped with drug houses and prostitutes in the past here in my neighborhood. I am not a great fan of Granite City police officers, some of them are wonderful and others have a tendency to get an attitude because they don't like their job, I suppose. All in all if I have to live here I want to see improvements.

Steve Dougherty (a business man), stepped up and bought The Stadium in Jerseyville from AMC, stepped up and helped renovate The Marvel in Carlinville, and built his own Westside Cinema in Litchfield. Jeff Eisentraut renovated The Orpheum in Hillsboro, the Canna in Gillespie, and the Roseland in Pana. So when you say "WHO" would refurbish the Nameoki cinema, there might have been someone willing to take on the task. But, the city wanted their own little Hail Mary for downtown. There was a reason no businessman would build down there. There is no future down there. Only a mayor with no business background would start a foolhardy venture.

Also, FYI, Kerasotes is virtually out of the cinema business.

That sucks! I think we need a casino. We can use TIF to pay for it right?

No what happen was. Ron(old Mayor)knew the cinema renewed the lease for another 8 years before the Nameoki commons prodect took place. Then, Kolman need the proeritys tear down & stuff. Well, the Cinema said no we renewed our lease & we are staying & it went to court & the city own & they tore it down, & not the Applebee's is there.

Kerasotes was founded in springfield il in 1909. by the time they sold it off to AMC for 257 mil, they had amassed 957 screens in 95 locations. the family had a 70% controlling interest in the business until two brothers sold their shares to the other partner in 2004. it left the remaining family with 40% ownership. today, they own three Icon concept theaters. located in Chicago and Mineappolis.

The reason I said that was because you don't make sense when you speak like that. Being perfect has nothing to do with it. It is about putting forth some effort and try to better yourself instead of sitting at the library playing games.

A real waste of taxpayer resources. Imagine how many streets could have been fixed?!?!?
I hear the popcorn is well over salted, the prices are outrageous, and the seating is worse than the airlines.
Should have just put in a casino and been done already.

Naa, not really retarded. Just hate watching good money go down the drain. money that could have paid down debt, fixed roads, fix sewer problems, etc.

PT Barnum I believe said "A fool and his money are soon parted. " We definitely got parted from ours!

As I said, the TIF bond holders are laughing at granite city folk all the way to the bank. If I was a TIF bond holder I really would have no incentive for posting as I would be one laughing as well while cashing in.

Anyone else that didn't see it might be specially retarded. That I would agree with.
