Based on another discussion that was started and really caught my interest I have some info that will answer some questions.
I received my info from the Madison county historical society!!
Kp grave yard is just a name ppl gave it cause they had no other name to go by. The original grave yard was vience Methodist church, they then sold some of their property to St marks and they made a grave yard at the other end.
There was over 2100 graves in that field.
The bodies are still out there!!! The stones were removed due to vandalism. Who removed the stones and where they went that is still an unanswered question.
BOTH OF THE CHURCHES ABANDONED THESE GRAVES, NOT SURE WHY.

The graves were removed by contracted about 20 or so years ago to keep the grass cut down. When I was a kid it weeds would be 8 ft tall. Like you said though, a lot of unanswered questions. Good job on the research, please keep it up. :)

Thanks for looking into it! You're appreciated. The disrespect of the dead might explain some of the strange happenings that have occurred.

Your very welcome :) Im still doing research on it, i have to say im 28 years old, but this has really got my attention. I feel they and their family memebers deserve some type of land marker out there. As im aware some bodies plus stone were moved to a cemetery in edwardsville. Also recently found out that the city has removed some stones bout 10 years ago.

I will keep all posted :)

I grew up around there from the 90's and there where stones out there they just laid sunk in the ground most times when they cut the grass low you could see them. I'm betting if you look close enough you would still find a few

Its located in the feild behind kp. The origanal cemetery was called Venice Methodist Episcopal first grave was 9-7-1900 last grave was in 1937. The second cemetery at the other end purchased land from Methodist cemetery this as called St
Mark's Catholic cemetery first grave 1906 last grave 1938. I've been doing research on this for the last week.

If your out there on Halloween night you will see a mist of fog surrounding the big tombstone. Me and my friends have seen it but never got close to the fog.

I lived in KP at least 20 us ago. There were a few stones left in the field behind kp, one of them extremely large. Everyone knew KP was built on top of grave sites, and we did expierence weird shit.
There was a time we sat in Gary Thompsons apt and listened to foot steps up the stairs, then down the hall, and then run across the hall and back down the stairs. It creeped the Fuck out of me, I left and never went back. I guess us unruly teens really ticked the dead.

You can use plain paper and rub a crayon over the paper on the stone to see worn down names and dates. The cemetery next to Mitchell school is really old too. Lots of Granite City founders are there. That site is kept up but I don't know by who.
