I just want to enterject a few comments. Ironically I was the paramedic who watched the first girl on auburn Folsom take her last breath,(courtney Cheney.) It was a sad night, I don't appreciate people who don't consider the danger of drinking and driving. However I do beleave everyone has their day in court here on earth or eventually with god! The irony is that I know the lady that hit the second girl, I also know her son in the first accident, I was there too! He killed one boy and severely injured his sister,( another sad night) but who has the right to judge her based on what get son did? Im not sticking up for either one but come on. I don't know if she was drunk or not, its not my place to judge. I do know that it sucks to watch someone die, courtney Cheney will always be in my mind, along with get parents I saw one year at granite bay high school ( every 15 minutes) if you read this she didnt pass at Roseville hospital, she died in my arms and she didnt suffer. I hope you find peace in knowing that.

I uderstand your words but I think the majority of us are reacting to the fact that she just drove away and left that poor child there to die. She also left an image that Courtneys friend will never forget. Not only did she kill Courtney, she ripped away what was left of the other girls childhood. She will never be able to look at an adult with the same trust again. She will likely have nightmares for years.(as you must know) These kids are experiencing a kind of pain that they should not have to deal with and they need to shout out their anger and try to make the driver and her family hurt as much as they do. It is a kind of healing for them. The people who loved Courtney and the people who have scene one too many hit and runs are just upset and trying to come to terms with what happened. You must admit, it is crazy that two people from the same family did nearly the same thing. It is not uncommon for people to build on the information that they are given.

So what is supposed to happen? She feels bad (now) so we should just let her go on with her life like nothing happened? Of course people think badly of her. SHE LEFT! Would you feel the same if it were your child that she thought was so worthless? Tell your friend that she just killed a young woman, and showed her own children that when you make a mistake you just run away from it. Woo hoo, mother of the year! Are her kids of driving age? Was it really her kid that was driving and shes just trying to cover for them? I understand that this is your friend, but do you really have to pour salt in the wounds of Courtny's friends and family? I think the focus needs to be on them right now. Don't be so selfish. Nobody cares how this coward feels. Had she stopped, they would be a lot more understanding.
Boy I so agree with you. This woman knew she hit something and even if it might have been an animal, she should have stopped to find out. There is no excuse for hitting anything and then leaving the scene like she did. NO EXCUSE AT ALL!!! She took a life of a young person and didn't even bother to stop. I feel nothing but discust for this woman..!

You know Doug, my son was in a car accident because a drunk driver with a suspended license and left the scene ran a red light. His excuse for leaving was that he didn't know what to do so he walked home to talk to his father. When the cops went to his apt he didn't answer the door and never turned himself in until 3 days later. He could have killed my son. My son may be alive but he has permenant damage to his spin because this person wasn't paying attention and left the scene. He had no idea if my son was dead or alive when he left the scene. There is no excuse for what this woman did by leaving without knowing what she did hit, no matter what. It doesn't matter that she went peacefully, she is gone and her family and friends have to deal with the loss and the fact that the person who hit their child/friend didn't even have the courage to stop.

I totally agree with LO fron GBay. That woman drove away even when she KNEW she hit a girl. What kind of heartless person would do that? even if you KNEW you made the BIGGEST mistake of your life does NOT mean you should just drive away. Think about how Courtney felt. WE LOVE YOU COURTNEY!

I think that we should talk about the good things not what should happen to the lady who hit her. Not about how she SHOULD be punished for her actions because if we do that they win this is about COURTNEY we all loved her she knows that we just have to remember we all still love her. And will continue to love her because without her we wouldn’t be the people we are today.

Doug, I know I am a little delayed in responding to your thoughts, but I was thinking about Courtney Cheney today & googled her name. I was brought to this. Courtney (sissy) as we knew her, was like a little sister to me. I knew her since she was born & grew up in their family. Thank you for sharing about her last moments. I know Steve Uribe was there too (his wife was later my boss) and she shared that Sissy died in someones arms. It does bring some peace. You NEVER get over it, it just get's easier. You may not feel like it, but you were lucky to share those moments with her and to hold her. Many of us would have given anything to be there. THANK YOU!
