That's just wrong to say something like that. No Pity or no conscience?

The streets are enemy territory. I feel individuals place themselves outside of God's divine protection when they venture out into the streets, bars, and night clubs. The bible says the enemy prowls around as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. For the most part, the enemy preys on the weak and those who are walking in spiritual darkness outside of God's protective will.
My prayer is for this young man to embrace the Light and that those responsible for his injuries be brought to justice. Grand Rapids

No info on the victim, or perps?
Typical of WZZM13...never any info.
At the time of this posting, there is more information on WZZM's website than there is on WOTV's.

This is disgusting to me! what is wrong with people. My thoughts are with this family. Something like this happened to my son in a MI community - not near to this extent - and there was no police support so I hope you get more!
Something similar to this happened to my nephews in Greenville while he was at home on a military leave, this was about 10 years ago, but the police did absolutely nothing to help. It took the military police coming in and taking over to get the idiots that did this arrested and prosecuted. Because my nephew was active military, they had jurisdiction to come in. My nephew, after many reconstructive surgeries, did survive and is doing well. My prayers are with this kid and his family & friends. It's disgusting this stuff happens. Hopefully, somebody knows who did this and these idiots that committed this crime pay either legally or otherwise.

If you don't know the full store then you shouldn't put your two sense in. The friend was nocked out and was not able to help his friend. He feels bad as it is. People that where not there should make judgment. "Fueling Embers" you need to think before you write something on here. You should think about how that friend feels and how bad he feels right know sitting in the hospital woundering if his friend is going to live or die. Why don't you think about that.
WE WILL PRAY FOR THE FAMILY. NO ONE SHOULD BE BEATEN LET THIS, HOW SAD, HOW VERY SAD.

Your comment strikes me really wrong. Its like your saying we must all hide in our houses and stop living and not go out at night to be with friends or family in a setting that might serve alcoholic beverages because God does not condone that. Well I am Lutheran, and MY God is not that judgemental. I get tired of people trying to pass thier beliefs onto other people and make it sound like the fault of the young man because he was out with his friends. No one on this forum knows the circumstances surrounding this horrible situation and to make a comment like that is wrong.
Would it have been any better had the group of men been in the parking lot of a church this late, and the group of hoodlums attacked them there? Would that make it better? I don't think so!!!! The only ones at fault are those who attacked this young man. I don't care what was said between these groups of people, NOTHING makes this attack justifiable. NOTHING makes this right. The only thing that can make this right is if those responsible are found and punished.
To say that because they were out late and in the streets, bar or nightclub that they placed themselves in this situation is WRONG!!!!!!!
God's divine intervention is not based on where you happen to be with your friends.

New to this again-I am reading the posts and some good points were made like cameras or bouncers. Just because it is across from the VanAndel does not make it safe. These thugs are looking for trouble, I wouldn't be surprised if it were gang related. Two summers ago my husband and I were on Deloney street waiting in our vehicle for our friend and we were absolutly surrounded by kids with swinging chains.I called 911 immediately. What bothers me about this so much is that the police saw no one ? I cannot believe it. I don't know him and I so much pray for his recovery and god help his family and friends through this. The rest of negative know it alls should find another forum to invade.

This is exactly the reason why I have stopped going to the bars in downtown GR. There are people always looking to start fights. They run their mouths inside the bar and try to provoke the person into fighting. Then they wait for the person to leave and they jump the person outside. I hope this guy gets better and they catch these losers.

To Jono's Friends and family, we are thinking about you and praying for you. Disregard the ignorant comments people are posting on this site. Anyone that knows Jono knows what a loving guy he is.

I'm sure this young man was just having a nice night out, he and his friends are entitled to do that. To assess blame doesn't take away the fact that this poor young man is laying in a hospital and his parents and family are terrified. Try being nice because you can't possibly imagine what he and they are going through. Maybe our "Cool City" needs some extra police on at night in the downtown area.

...this is so sad. I really do hope they catch the people. It sounds like an episode (or two) from CSI. Where these groups of teens and/or young people randomly picked people off the street to assault just to know what it feels like. I hope when they are caught and put in jail they get the shit beaten out of them.
That is only ONE reason you would NOT find me downtown at 2 o'clock in the morning.
If one does not put themselves in harms way they odds are better that they will not be harmed.

Im so sorry to see this happen to such an awesome guy. To his close family and freinds, know that the people who did this terrible thing will be brought to justice...Grand Rapids is too small a town to get away with something like this, someone will come forward soon. You all (especially Jon) are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless

Wow, you've got some serious growing up to do. Regardles how the fight was started, a man is in critical condition right now fighting for his life. Put yourself in his family and freinds positions and have some compassion, that comment was completely uncalled for.

what no description of the criminals again ?
guess what that means, the liberal media doesn't choose to print the truth.
see, liberals create a situation that did no exist, and then offer a non functioning answer to solve it.
but like all of the liberal agenda it can only succeed by oppressing the rights of one group people to please another.
FYI. did you know Clinton tried to ban the boy scouts from state and federal lands., LOOK IT UP.
Do everyone a favor and stop with the personal agenda crap. No one at this point cares about your view of the liberal media. This is a real situtation involving real people...get over yourself.

and after reading posts im glad all of you are so open to hearing the story of what happened. Maybe jono didnt even drink at all. No matter what the circumstances are no one deserves a beating this bad. This is terrible and for one of you to say big bad football player open his mouth, who cares if he played football, its a sport. What does that have to do with anything. Your just a disgusting individual who needs to look at their whole purpose in life, and i can tell you i dont think it involved being an a hole.
How about everyone just prays for his recovery and not be so quick to judge him. Thank you
I agree with Andrew. People need to put their personal agenda's aside and focus on the real issue. Jono is an amazing guy, i've never heard a bad word about him. We're all praying for a full and speedy recovery
