I have relatives in the Upper Midwest, and generally prefer that region compared with KS/MO. The Minneapolis and Madison metro areas also have strong economies that are doing better than KC right now.
Texas is also booming, I however enjoy my snow and humidity for short periods of time, certainly not months on end.

I have Scandinavian ancestry so cold and snow never bother me. I enjoy skiing, ice fishing, and snowmobiling in the winter.

I'm not sure about the traffic going South from there. Any reason you don't want to live in Kansas, closer to your husband's work?
Taxes and politics, mostly. And the office is actually on the Kansas side of KC, a little closer than Lenexa.

If you are looking for a smaller town close to Lenexa you may be interested in De Soto.
Politically eastern KS tends to be fairly moderate with more liberal pockets in the college towns, and conservatives in the suburban and exurban areas.

i lived in the Kc area for 20+ year's. i have a son who is graduating this year from Raytown high. am currently living outside of St. Louis. i have to tell you i miss Kc more than i ever thought i would. there is something going on for everyone at any given time, all within i'd say a 30 minute drive or less because of the well thought out roadway's. granted there are the typical racial area's as far as neighborhood's but that's everywhere if you think about it. bottom line is whatever need's you have as far as family, job, Kc area in whole is well equipped to meet your need's no matter what side of state line you choose. get past the homer's and the hater's and you'll find out how easy it is to fall in love with the entire K.C. area. can't wait to return. i'll take a 435 or a 70 rush hour traffic over a 55 or a 270 traffic jam ANYDAY! lol

I maybe moving to Kansas City Missouri due to a job opportunity from Tampa Florida.
Are there things todo for young executives? Remember I am moving from Florida. I have always wanted to move to a big city but is Kansas City, MO really considered a big city? I am also looking to move into a loft downtown area.
Let me know, I am interested.

Consider KC like a town just above Tampa, like Spring Hill with the same night life as Tampa.

Olathe KS is where you want to live. Just a short drive into KC if you need to go there but worlds away from the big city crime/traffic/BS/diversity

You have got to be kidding. Olathe is a huge suburb that is growing like crazy, and also becoming more diverse every day. I find the traffic there to also be getting much worse compared to 10-20 years ago. You could not pay me to live in JOCO anymore!

Kansas is about as cookiecutter and cultureless as they come and if you have kids,(and I don't knowhow you may feel about this!) they will brainwash them in the classroom because they continually have court battles about whether to teach magic (Creationism) or science (Evolution)to them!!!
Sure they have new Malls where you drive right up to your store of choice, hop out, walk in, and right back out. No sidewalks to stroll, no historic architecure, no financial district, no great art galleries or major museums to offer your kids, or even a professional sports team for you and them to cheer! KC has its problems with its "Public" school system sure, but we have fantastic private schools! Take a look here: http://www.universityacademy.org/ and here: http://www.kcacademy.org/aboutUs/history.html there are others also. When they get into High School take a look at Rockhurst High, St. Teresa's Academy, and Lincoln Prep. If not KC proper,, take a look at North Kansas City, Lees Summit, and Blue Springs if you like suburban living. But do not let the politics of fear which is so in vogue today scare you away from a city on the rebound like so many others of its size and have been here for 150 years or so. Not every place was an unplowed field of soy beans 25 yrs like much of Kansas and not thrown up overnite.
Have you ever visited Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art? Permanent exhibits or changing exhibits are world class.

I like medium sized cities instead of huge metro areas. I enjoy where I live now much more than JOCO!

I live in NH now and the quality of life is superior to Kansas. The job market here is strong, traffic is moderate, it is not too crowded, the ocean is a short drive, and the mountains are a short drive. The people are reserved and friendly.

Thanks! I like NH very much. It is a great place to live. If you ever take a vacation to NH visit The Flume, The Basin, Franconia Notch State Park, Lake Winnipesaukee, Mount Washington via the Auto Road, historic Portsmouth, the entire Seacoast, and the Kank Highway corridor from Lincoln to North Conway.
