There were three of them...and from what I've heard, one of them is out on probation. But not Delay, he's still in.

They should've all been given the chair.

I remember I was out hunting with my dad down near Kelly Hollar on the river. We met these three thugs walking out of one of the jeep trails. They stopped us for whatever reason and Delay poked his head in our vehicle and obviously noticed we were armed. That was only a couple miles from where they killed the Kittermans a few days later. I'm sure they were scoping out a place to commit the murder. Does anyone remember the picture in the newspaper where the sun was shinning through the tree top where they were tied up and killed? What shape did the light rays create??

Yes, I do remember. Roberta was in her senior year of high school. She attended class half a day, and was given permission by the school to work half a day at the Bank of Grandin, where her father was a bank executive and her mother was a teller/clerk. Roberta's last class of the morning was my Accounting class. My husband and I had signed a $500 Promissory Note to the Bank of Grandin, and Roberta carried this in her Accounting book to be delivered to her father at the Bank.

After the murders, the FBI questioned me and my husband about the Promissory Note, and why Roberta was carrying it in her Accounting book.

Bob Kitterman and his wife, Bertha, were two people dedicated to their children, to the growth and progress of Grandin, and Carter County.

Someday, I hope a movie is made of this venal crime. The world needs to be aware, and diligent, of bullies, malcontents, and terrorists that live within our own backyard--not just in someone else's neighborhood.

The Kitterman murders should not be forgotten, nor forgiven.

You are incorrect. One is dead and the other two are still in prison. They have both been up for parole numerous times and have never been granted it. The surviving daughters attend the parole hearings personally and will continue to do so until both men are dead. They have been denied parole every single time they have been up for it. I don't know where you are getting your information from, but I am a friend of the family and am very aware of what is going on. You need to keep your mouth shut about things you know nothing of. Both men will die in prison, just like the other one did, and that is exactly how it should be.

No Bob was not a judge. He was the president of the Bank Of Grandin. My brother was engaged to Roberta when these low-life pieces of trash did this.

Why does there have to be a movie made of this? Our families went though enough when this happened.

How can you not want this wanton murder, and those responsible to be exposed?

I knew Bob and Bertha Kitterman. I bowled for five years on a bowling team with Bertha Kitterman. Roberta was in my Accounting class.

One of Roberta's sisters has spoken before the Missouri State Legislature on Crimes Committed Against Families. The Kitterman's will never forgive nor forget this atrocity. Neither will I.

I hope everyone is still interested in this topic. I have a very close connection to this case and these people. My brother was shot in the back by Delay about 3 years before the murders. He died 14 years later from the massive damage that was done to his body when he was shot with a deer slug. Delay was never prosecuted for this crime as the local prosecutor in Carter County was aware and condoned the crimes the thug committed in and around Van Buren. Seems the son of the prosecutor had some dealings with Delay that included stolen auto parts. My family was threatened by Delay and my father ended up contacting the state police asking for protection and told them "let'em drive by my home one more time and I'll be waiting for them". The threats stopped. Rector and Cowin were cousins and lived right behind my family in Van Buren. Which one is dead? I know Delay last filed an appeal for parole in 2005 and was denied. I knew that one had been paroled but cant remember which one. I know a lot about these slime balls.

I am one of the grand daughters of Bob and Bertha Kitterman. My aunt and mother both were truly affected horribly after this happened to them in 1973. That's correct, 1973, NOT 1974. Many of these comments are very untrue, most of them are hearsays, and gossip, not factual. It may be easy for many of you to write, and even argue, over a blog about someone else's tragedy. It's easy, because it isn't your life. I encourage you to stop this. If you truly want to know facts, call the Kitterman girls who experienced it. Research newspaper articles. There are plenty online. I actually was researching for newspaper clippings when I came across this blog. The true reason I am writing anything on this page is because the statement you made about the Kittermans never forgetting and never forgiving is absolutely absurd. One of my mom's(daughter of Bob and Bertha, sister to Roberta) favorite quotes is, "Unforgiveness looks back, but Faith looks up." Sure, my family has never forgotten, nor will we ever. My mom didn't get to have her father walk her down the aisle at her wedding. She never had her mom at her bedside when giving birth to her children. My siblings and I never were able to meet our aunt, or our grandparents. However, one thing that both my mother and my aunt have always shared in every story of our grandparents was GRACE. Christ has shown each of us indescribable grace, and although my family will never know why He allowed this atrocity to happen, we trust Him still. And by trusting Him, we have learned to extend grace to the men who have done this. Just to clear things up. Dallas Delay is still serving his State Prison charges. Rector is dead. Cowin is out on parole. But most of all, the biggest thing I wanted to clear up is this. The Kittermans(Pat, Kathy and families) will NEVER forget, but HAVE FORGIVEN, and will live by grace the rest of their days.
