The big problem I see is that those who smoke MJ regularly for "recreation" eventually seem to not get the high they are seeking & turn to the bigger stuff. That is what most of them that do claim why they did. I know what it's like to be on Chemo & be puking your guts out after taking every anti-nausea med they made. My Dr. recommended that I try MJ but I said NO. Any way they did come out with a new med so I was able to finish my 2 yr course without too much problem. But if it helps someone through their medical illness & it doesn't addict them, then I'm all for it. But for medicinal purposes only.
The idea that weed is a gateway drug is false propaganda. In fact, the false propaganda itself causes more of a gateway effect. If a kid smokes some weed and realizes he's been lied to about weed being dangerous, he may assume he's been lied to about harder drugs, too, and try them.

from your link:
Signs of a life threatening overdose:
Person is passed out or semi-conscious and cannot be awakened
Person vomits while sleeping or passed out and does not wake up
Rate of breathing seems slow or irregular
Person has cold, clammy, pale or bluish color skin
They all say if the person cannot be awakened. That I agree with. But several pass out and CAN be awakened. I should clerify that when I say passed out (like most) that means fall asleep, and you can be awakened.
From the story's it sounds like she WAS able to be awakened.
From the story, she aspriated her own vomit. A person who is not passed out would not have had that happen; they would have awakened before they vomited or had the presence of mind to turn their head at least and not aspirate.
It's a shame someone had to die for a drink no matter how it happened.

People who pass out do regain consciousness eventually. If you don't, it's called coma or death.
The fact that she woke up in the morning doesn't mean she never passed out during the night.

That's not what I've been told by MJ users!! They said that the reason they turned to the hard stuff was to get the high they were no longer able to get with MJ. So maybe if you only smoke it once in a while it's no big deal but if you use it frequently, it could be when you no longer get HIGH & decide to try the harder drugs to get that HIGH that seems to be so important. That is the concern of many people against illegal drugs in the first place. I get high on life!! Being that I've faced death several times & live to tell about it!!! God's peace!

Sober people can aspirate on water, pop, coffee, food, & their own saliva. Have you ever coughed so hard that you can't get you breath? Have you ever swallowed the wrong way? Especially if you are laying down on your back & can't get up & don't turn your head in time? It happens!!

Yes, I've swallowed the wrong way...but I was very aware that it had happened and if it were causing me to be short of breath after the fact, you'd better beleive I'd be in the ER. The fact that she was so inebriated that she was unaware that she was developing a life threatening problem should tell you something about the level of intoxication this girl had.
If you have fluid building in your lungs, you become very short of breath and experience chest pain. Aspiration pneumonia isn't something that sneaks up on you if you're even close to conscious.

All of you are nuts...theorizing how or why this beautiful young lady died.

Isn't enough that, whatever the reason, she is dead? MUST you now argue over exactly why she did?

It is tragedy enough and many of you are just being ghoulish.

My condolences to her family for their loss...

Not nuts and not theorizing. The article we are commenting on tells us exactly what the cause of death is and I think most, if not all, of us have already agreed that it is indeed tragic that substance abuse has claimed yet another life.
