I don't think you should say he was hit by a Drunk Driver! You state that the boy ran into the truck. That is the way is was and should have been reported. I do not agree that you should drive drunk, but it is a shame that you report BAD NEWS! I think we all should speak the truth and it might just help our failing society. Don't you agree?

I don't think we have a "failing society." Parents seemingly are not always keeping a watchful eye on the little ones. It's not to say that there truly are accidents, but I would think watching such young children should be the #1 priority of parents.

this happened in front of my house today, several parents & children where all outside to see it happen.,we could not have responded fast enough.THIS TRULY WAS AN ACCIDENT.BUT,BECAUSE THE DRIVER WAS DRUNK,I THINK IT MAKES IT HARDER FOR US TO DEAL WITH.we are all very close neighbor's and we all watch out for each other,,SO PLEASE DON'T THINK IT WAS A CHILD OUTSIDE WITHOUT ANY SUPERVISION.OUR CHILDREN ARE OUR # ONE PRIORITY .

It will make it harder that the driver was drunk but please remember that even if he wasn't drunk the child would have still been hit. I am not putting anyone down I am just stating the obvious. Anytime a child is injured by another human being it is hard to cope with.
I will pray for him to have a quick recovery and I will pray for his family and friends so that they may heal from the hurt also.

This is the secound report of child being hit by a vechile. I am sorry to hear about these accidents but I have a question that is do people not have backyard for the children to play in . I just don't understand why the front yard and by the road unless this is the only place for them to play. I know toddlers move fast I have grandchildren of that age so I know I guess that is why I have them in the back yard and I had it fenced in for that reason. I am not cold or heartless I just wonder why the front yards. I see it every day in my neighbor hood also and I have come to close to hitting a child . I am glad the child is doing good ,my prayers and thoughts go to the family who's little girl passed away after being struck by car .

The weather is nice, which means that there are alot of kids, bikes, motorcycles, walkers, out and about. Please stay off the cell phones and pay extra attention. And for heaven sakes, if you drink and drive you are asking for trouble! That buzz isn't worth a lifetime of grief.

Last year, there seemed to be a childs death every day due to drownings, bike accidents, etc. I am hoping we won't have a repeat of it this year, but we aren't off to a good start.

Thank God this child will be OK, unlike the precious 3 year old that was just killed.

Please drivers...be aware.

Parents: With the summer driving season about to reach full steam, now would be a good time to reinforce with your children the danger of being in the street. You could teach them the safe way (crosswalks) to cross the street and let them know that cars can't always see them when they are playing near the road and can't stop instantly and that not all drivers follow the rules, better yet, teach them not to play in or near the road. Parents, feel free to tell your child that in the event they need to cross the road they should notify you first. Parents should also let their children know that in the interest of safety, they will now be supervised and not allowed to roam the neighborhood. Parents should also let their kids know that they (the parents) can be held responsible for any injury or damage that occurs when kids are unattended (even if it is an accident). If EVERYONE does their part we can have a safe, fun, accident free summer.
