I think that the options "the game has passed coaching by" and "poor placement of talent" go hand in hand. Coops is in serious need of stepping up the QB position as all the other promising schools have done. There was certainly talent misplaced on this team in several areas! Today's football requires changes. Coops coaching is surely behind the game!

Oh just quit your whinning!
You sound like a poor sport.
All teams go through changes, some good, some bad.
If I cryed a river everytime the Lions lost, we'd need to build an Ark.

Besides, if you can do better, why arent you their coach?

But could we find two Lions worth taking on that ark? At least it was a bye week this week. Should be a real barn-burner next week. How long has it been since the Lions have played a team with a worse record?

That will be a tough game to decide who NOT to bet on!
I see the Ram's lost again.
It's going to be a tough game to call.

Come on!! Coach Meerman is a good coach. What is your deal, Your kid didn't get Quarterback position?

The fact is they just didn't have the talent this year! This is the first year in 11 years they haven't made it to the playoffs, and they can't attract(Recruit) players like EGR. They just get the players they have. truth be told over the last 10-15 years Coop has one of the best records in the area. Went to state finals in 01 and 06. And no I don't have any ties to the team, I just can't stand little whinny babies like you, who start a poll the first time Coop doesn't make the playoffs, it is pathetic. Coach Meerman has a great "program" that trickles all the way down to rocket football. The reason alot of schools aren't as succesfull is they change coaches too much and never establish a program.

Get a life or move your kid to another district.

I agree Coops has had a good run for a long time with the old school game. The fact is that in todays football the difference between a good team and a great team boils down to the QB. Coops QB position seems like a waste compared to their competitors. Not just this year. Where's the talent? maybe you are right they don't have any!!! The game has changed and the old strategies can no longer compete with new. Look at the QB's from ALL the great teams whether they were recruited or not. They gotta have what it takes! No ties either and didn't start this poll it was already there. When Coops steps it up with the changes of modern day football you'll see great things happen again. should make for a show!

i agree with the "coach Z" guy..i played for coach meerman this year and i think the one reason we didnt make the playoffs is because the coaches are stuck in there old ways. Running the ball up the gut 30-40 times a game trying to play smashmouth football just wont cut it these days. There are too many teams out there who are recruiting 275-300 lbs defensive lineman to their schools. Not having talent is out of the question, there was plenty of it. We started 9 underclassman on defense and 4 of them are all-conference athletes.

Their star RB transferred to Allendale with two more years of HS eligibility. Time for Meerman to give it up since he ruined it for the Senna kid and now he has nothing left. The days of ruling the OK blue are over now that West Catholic are in the conference.

I hear ya bud. Plenty of talent from what I've seen! If a few players were positioned differently and new methods had been incorporated the past few years you kids would've had as good a shot as anyone! Ya'll played hard anyhow with the setup ya had!

Too bad one already transferred. Hate to see that happen! It speaks volumes tho. Hang in there if it wasn't your last year. Too bad for those kids who don't have another chance after all their years of hard work. Your group of guys always had a real good record all the way through. It wasn't just West that won out but several teams that you easily could've beat with some adjustments. Like I said when those adjustments happen at Coops we'll see another show. It sure as heck was possible with this years group! Too bad for you kids. Ya just don't get the payoffs with old smashmouth these days.

Before I assumed I should've asked if the young RB moved to Allendale with his family? Did they all move or did he switch cause he wanted to play there I mean was it a sports move or not?

According to MHSAA he wont be eligable to play next year.
But somehow, schools seem to be able to get around these rules.
I.E.,.. Muskegon this year, And EGR this year.
They both recruited students, and were allowed to get away with it.

The family didn't move. The young RB was disrepected in a team meeting and called out accusing him of being lazy. Sure seems like it could have been handled another way if this was really a problem. Too bad stupidity ruled in this case and now its too late. Time for the AD to do his job and reprimand Coach Meerman. Strong rumor he is on his way out.

Man sounds like a mess over there! Not good to lose kids from your district. The AD should mediate in these situations for sure. Better luck in the future!

Coach Meerman will no longer be Coops coach; sources say he called it quits. He's had a long run so probably a tough call for him. It'll be interesting to see what the future holds for those Broncos

Yup, coops young RB got disrespected all right. Not necessarily cuz they called him lazy, but because one of the coaches said that they thought he was "bigger than the program." I dont know how that got into that coache's head. Plus there was another incident earlier in the season that was ridiculous with the DB coach. Senna is a hard working kid. We personally brought him up to the school in the off season for almost every single open lifting session. He was doing sparq training camps in Detroit every Sunday for awhile. He was training like hell before the season to just get playing time for the varsity. His four older brothers were training with him a lot who all had played Coops football for Meerman. He has talent yes, but his insane work ethic is what made him get better! For working hard you deserve respect. Hopefully he gets it more so at Allendale. It was decided that 2 more years at coopersville of not realizing his work ethic wasn't going to happen. Kids shouldn't be cut down if they work hard all the time.

He will be eligible for play for the next football season according to MHSAA website.

"Eligibility
Is a student eligible for sports if they change schools?
Once a student enrolls in a school to begin the 9th grade, and then changes schools (transfers), the student is ineligible for one full semester in the new school unless the student meets one of the stated exceptions to the Transfer Rule."
http://www.mhsaa.com/AbouttheMHSAA/FAQs.aspx

The new semester has started or will start soon for Allendale taking care of his ineligibility starting at that school. Fall season will be just fine.

The timing of Meerman resigning sounds a bit suspicious including that of his defensive coach VanHouten. Could it be it happened because they have zero chance of succeeding the next couple of years when they forced the Senna kid's hand and made him transfer? No quality RB means no OK Blue championship, right? With West Catholic now dominating the Blue conference the shine was off the Coopersville/Meerman apple to begin with. Way to leave the program in shambles without a RB, guys! Plus, the ultimate disrepect to Senna was the fact his name wasn't mentioned at the football banquet. You don't suppose it was too embarrassing for the coaches, do you? Where was Senna's name in the GR Press article of Meerman resigning? We ain't stupid! Jane Bos didn't ask the right questions!

Very interesting. was the Senna kid one of the 4 all conference players on the team? How were his stats? Ya really think they resigned because of his tranfer?? What about that Phaler kid isn't he any good? I wonder if coach will come back after a couple years when there's more talent available again with some NEW tricks up his sleeve? Or maybe he's gonna move on to bigger & better things elsewhere. This sure is a big change for Coops! Maybe for Allendale too. they just may have one of the best RB's in the state now from the sounds of it. Hard to believe Coops didn't make playoffs with that talent and the then some.

Unfortunately no, he wasn't named an all conference player. I dont know what happened there. One of his coaches,(not Meerman), said he specifically wasn't going to vote for Ryan for "all conference" because he said Ryan thought he was bigger than the program. Ryan couldn't believe the coach said this in front of all the other players. Ryan was very embarrassed and couldn't understand why that coach was particularly upset with him. He had the most rushing yards on the team with 148 attempts at gaining over 850+ yards on the ground. I thought that was pretty damn good for a sophomore that didn't start most of the time. The next closest kid with rushing yards was Andy Beers the full back with roughly 350 rushing yards. Phaler is a fast runner, but currently gets annihilated everytime he seems to touch the ball (Well he always went flying whenever I saw him touch the ball that is). Hes a great kid though). He just runs to high before a collision or doesn't have enough muscle mass. Both of those things can be corrected luckily. Ryan is going to try to be the best back for Allendale. Thats the thing with this is, he has to prove himself all over again and he knows the running back position wont be handed to him. Hes currently around 150 pds and is very quick, very strong pound for pound. He is going to try to be at or around 165-170 pds by next season. Its hard for his body type to gain weight fast, but doable. His father and brothers all lift weights so he has enough motivation and knowledge around him for it. Ryan wants to be one of the best backs in Michigan by the time hes a senior. He loves playing for his team because he knows without his teammates he isn't going to get anything done. He was just taken out of a negative environment so he could more readily flourish.
