Another nearby business going out. Bad name though, I could never justify going to place based primarily on the name. :P

The hamburgers weren't that good after they sold a few years ago. The old owner was a jerk but he sold a tasty burger. The new owner appeared to be rather dopey, slow service, he hired some questionable looking people to work in a food establishment, all in all I suspected he lacked the brains required to make it work.

I've read the article and am confused. Did they close due to bankruptcy, or the health dept?

Good hangover cure was their olive burger... Maybe a White Castle will move in now that there is no worthy competition! Good Bye Fat Boy... You were always there for me!

Here is the article from the Press where they actually use their journalist skills to write a real story with clear information. WoodTV keeps sliding down hill with their "Breaking News" and poor reporting.

I'm confused too.

Does anyone know if Mike stills owns it, or did he sell it?

I hope the choo-choo grill doesn't close down. That would be just as bad as Fat Boy closing. Or when the Burger King on Fuller closed. That was a sad day in our town. Thoes are Grand Rapids icons!

Choo-choo grill makes the second best burer I've had in this town - I eat there as often as I can. Best burger I've had is at the Grand Rapids Brewing company, hands down. Messy, bad for me, but REALLY tasty.

"They usually open six days a week, until 1:30 on Sundays," said Fat Boy's regular Kermit Humberg.

I bet he never got teased with that name!

I seen this play out before when I lived out west, one day you wake up and all the burger shops are out of business and they are replaced by taco stands. It probably took about five years.

Wish I had the cash to buy this little gem and keep it open! Remember Big Tommy that worked nights there? He would make the best stuff around. What a loss to the community. RIP Fat Boys, and thanks for the memories.

You have no idea how much that makes my day...lol.

Anyway -...it's sad to hear of it's closing. I hope for memories sake someone can buy it, get it inspected and reopen it. Maybe the old owner can buy it back. Jerk that he may be ---he knows how to run a business.

I remember back in the day, cruisin' up and down Plainfield....FatBoys was a 'marker' so to speak.
