Those objects have not been used to kill people? Are you saying a car has good uses so that should not be included? So does a gun. Shooting guns is one Olympic event, it is used for hunting. That is a sport in its self that keeps many children out of trouble. Guns are used for target practice. Most importantly they are used for protection against intruders that or criminals that will get the weapon of their choice legal or illegal with as many rounds as they desire. After you are done shooting your couple rounds allowed by new laws and miss the person ( he will not stand still for you to shoot him) he will make you pay for pissing him off with your couple rounds shot. Tell me where I was misguided.
Most importantly they're used for protection? Statistics prove that you have more of a chance to shoot yourself or a family member than you do an intruder. Just ask that whacked out preacher man who lived up north's son or wife. Oh yeah, you can't because he shot them! Again with the conservative idiots. Have all the guns you want, its god's way of thinning the herd.

Oh I see more people are killed by guns than knives. So who cares about the other ways that people die or the people themselves. And throw out all the good that guns do. Throw out the fact that a good portion of those deaths you refer to are criminals that would possibly kill innocent citizens and suicides.

Do yourself a favor and do not get yourself a gun because you will double down on those factually incorrect statistics.

Your quick thought is good on this and I agree on the surface. The problem is you are not looking at the big picture and taking in all the possibilities. Guns have not always been registered. Stolen guns have been bought and sold without the knowledge of them being stolen. I'm all for reasonable laws being stiffened that punish criminals, not law abiding citizens.
If you have a stolen gun you turn in the person you bought it from or go you to jail. Eventually you would get to the person that stole it.

Just remember that good decent people through no fault of their own instantly become criminals with the passing of laws, doesn't matter what the law is. Laws created by men are created to control man. I do not abide by the laws created by men. Does that make me a criminal no does that make me a danger to the public no. God in his wisdom gave me a brain oh and all of you as well so use it and listen to the powers and leaders that be, they don't trust you, or even care about you its all about as much power they can grab over your life. No more of mens laws!! We have enough.

Oh, make no mistake about it, they are pissed. They didn't get their way and now they are going to throw temper tantrums and ignore the fact that the members of their own party voted it down as well.

Why are guns, such a fetish for so many?.....How embarassing that we can't even pass anything on backround checks....especially after the carnage of an incident like Sandy Hook......This isn't about the NRA anymore....it's more about, the gun manufacturers lobby has more funding and power, than the parents of Newtown victims......

A tragedy happens to them by a law breaker and now they are smarter than everyone else. Using them is a sin.
The law breaker will not take the background check. BTW potheads will not pass either if your side gets their way

The really sad part of all this is that there are already background checks required AND a 3 day waiting period. This was nothing more than a way to impress people that we are doing "something". Even some of the Democrats, including Majority leader Harry Reid, voted against this bill.

Nice try, but dead wrong:

Several years back American Medical Association published a statistic stating that you were 34 more time likely to kill a household member than you were to kill an attacker.

But when they were asked about their methodology to come up with such a stat no answer was ever received and the very next year the number changed to 2.5 time more likely. Hmmmm....

One fallacy of the anti gun crowd is that they seem to believe the gun was only useful if it is used to kill someone while protecting yourself. If you just chase off a would be attacker, well, that didn't' count.,

In truth Professor Gary Kleck's research indicates that law abiding citizens stop over 2 million crimes every year using a gun. Imagine how high the crime rate would be without that.

The last four years have seen accidental firearms fatalities at an all time low while gun ownership is at an all time high.

Which statistic do you think is more likely?

A study claiming "guns more likely to kill you than help you" is a total fraud. The author of this study, Dr. Arthur Kellerman, refused to release the data behind his conclusions for years because they were completely flawed.

Researcher Don Kates reveals that all available data now indicates that the "home gun homicide victims [in Kellermanís study] were killed using guns not kept in the victimís home." In other words, the victims were NOT murdered with their own guns! They were killed "by intruders who brought their own guns to the victimís household."

How embarassing that you think a background check (already required, BTW) would have prevented Sandy Hook when the shooter did not buy the guns himself. In fact, his first crime was to steal the guns and kill the gun's owner. Tell me again how a background check prevents that?

The last gun I bought at a gun show at the Delta Plex in GR was a single shot break action rifle, yes they did a background check it took about 4 hours I guess that is instant in the world of government. That was like 7 years ago.
