What would do wonders...would be a mandatory 5 year sentence, for anyone in possession of a stolen firearm....

Your quick thought is good on this and I agree on the surface. The problem is you are not looking at the big picture and taking in all the possibilities. Guns have not always been registered. Stolen guns have been bought and sold without the knowledge of them being stolen. I'm all for reasonable laws being stiffened that punish criminals, not law abiding citizens.

Felons found in possession of ANY firearm already have the 5 year mandatory sentence. I think that those who use firearms in a commission of a felony should receive 20 years without the possibility of parole. They might think twice about it if they know what kind of time they'll be serving.

Phil, i like to think i was born, looking at the big picture.....registrations(back round checks) would serve as the key...if you had submitted the local/national backround check, upon purchase....there is some leeway, but both parties in the case of hiding the transaction, could be charged by law..........would make unsavory gun owners and owners of illegal weapons, be in much deeper criminal liability..........

I'm sure that is what you would like, as do most of us. Problem is that does not happen most of the time. Not because your dumb but because if you are not knowledgable about the subject and are quick to make a judgement it is likely you will make a mistake. Not all guns are registered and should not be be because it does not stop crime in most cases. Anybody can throw things out there without thinking it through. Until something is done on mental health ( assault cars, hammers, bats, pencils, and assault knives) there will always be a problem. If someone uses a assault weapon in a crime there should be stiff penalties

Anyone who compares guns and cars is a certifiable conservative idiot. You've lost all and any credibility if all your argument is based on is comparing two totally different things and saying we shouldn't do something simply because it won't stop every incident. Your argument is shallow and holds zero substance.

Those objects have not been used to kill people? Are you saying a car has good uses so that should not be included? So does a gun. Shooting guns is one Olympic event, it is used for hunting. That is a sport in its self that keeps many children out of trouble. Guns are used for target practice. Most importantly they are used for protection against intruders that or criminals that will get the weapon of their choice legal or illegal with as many rounds as they desire. After you are done shooting your couple rounds allowed by new laws and miss the person ( he will not stand still for you to shoot him) he will make you pay for pissing him off with your couple rounds shot. Tell me where I was misguided.

Or maybe a knife is unreasonable for me to mention. We just had 14 kids get slashed

Or maybe a hammer is unreasonable. The guy that played target practice on the firemen was convicted and spent time in jail for beating his grandmother to death with a hammer.

I'm pretty sure these guys were all having mental problems.

The guys that had the guns broke laws by having them. The guys that used other objects had them legally. In all scenarios mental problems were the main ingredient. Lets fix the main ingredient. Or let's at least do something about the main ingredient. How many people have to die before we take our first real step?

Ok you keep tracks on mass murders that happen with knives and I'll do the same thing with guns. We'll compare notes in a year or so. Another compete idiot conservative.
