Is WZZM so hard up for news that they have to resort to this????

When the "Michigan State Police say the investigation is on going, but the rumors that are circulating are just rumors" why would WZZM even air this story let alone contact the mother in Florida and the grandparents in Newaygo????

They hurt enough, leave them alone.

This is not responsible news reporting.

The people in Newaygo County are talking about this a lot. I think it shows that WZZM is listening to the community... and INFORMING them that what they are hearing is not true. As a Newaygo County resident, that's why I watch WZZM.

I am from Newaygo County and its nice to know update on story in the area. However, I still can't believe when this was going on that the Michigan State Policy didn't issue an Amber Alert. I know they thought she was just a run away, but look what happen. Maybe if they would of issued one this wouldn't of happen.

I couldn't agree more with the first poster. This news "update" doesn't even contain any pertinent information. Thanks for wasting my time WZZM.

News or not I still can't believe there have been no arrests made in this case. On the same token, it is almost heartless that WZZM would contact the girls mother and grand parents.

please just pray for the families, for Amanda's, and for anyone family members of those who may have been involved. No one knows anything at this time except that some cover-up may have been involved. Remember that before you start rumors about people more people are effected by the outcome than the individuals you are speaking of.

its a small town and i dont think the Newaygo County Police Department is doing all what they can. IF they didnt have enough facts why would they contact parents or anything this is getting their hopes up. And now they are let down .

This is a quote from this article....

"WZZM 13 News has received a number of emails with tips about a break in the 2004 murder of 13-year-old Amanda Lankey."

WZZM, I think you should step up to the plate and release your sources to the Police, this rumor is harming this whole County! Many names are being drug through the mud and you have the perfect chance to help stop it. For this Childs sake do the right thing!!!!!!

Keep in mind that Law enforcement usually waits for tips and leads. If an article like this gets people talking than let them do so and with all probability someone will come forward with more information or for that matter a conscience. If people are talking there must be a reason!

People just want to know the truth. That's all. And unless you were actually in this county you don't know what it's like to maybe know that somebody in the Police force has done this. I've heard a bunch of crap but I don't believe it. And Wzzm was just trying to contact the Lankey family because maybe they found out something that no one else knows. So that's that.

I believe that there are YOUNG people in Newaygo County that know the truth and are afraid to come forward. I think that the more they hear about it the more it will pressure them and guilt them into coming forward, it is obvious that you can't hide from your demons, the truth will prevail.

its nice to hear about her. WZZM is just making sure we dont forget about her. letting us know the police has said its just rumors it good. but then again you have to think, what if its not? what if they are just saying that because they dont want everyone to know whats going on? I havent given my hopes up for my friend and her family. Its a shame it had to happen to her (and every other person in this world that has died). I miss her terribly and like to know that we havent forgotten her. calling her family is in a way good because what if they heard to rumors? wouldnt they like to know if its true or not? if this was your daughter, wouldnt you like to know if it was true or not? wouldnt you like to know that people are trying to help find out what happend? that people havent forgotten about her and still think about her and pray for them?
I would.
maybe some of you are missing how important a small article like this can be. ive read everything atleast a million times wishing i was reading it wrong and it really said it was all over, that they found who did it.
I dont know about you, but if your a kid, this can be pretty scarry.
it scares me to know this person that did this to her is still out there. what if they killed me too?
i just hope everything gets solved, and fast.

i miss u amanda,*rip*, ill see u again one day.

I would like to state that the way in which the local news decided to handle this was so extremely disappointing that I don't even know where to begin. It may be "interesting" to the rest of the general public that this case is at a standstill, but to Amanda's family, this isn't something that should be noted on the news as if it were simply something to be shooed away like a fly and dismissed. Number one, there are many of us that -firmly- believe that Amanda did not in fact leave the house voluntarily at all, and no amount of reporting is going to sway that belief nor is there any evidence that beyond a shadow of a doubt would prove such a thing. So for you to throw something that flippant out as one of the first sentences in your story last night was completely out of line and inconsiderate. Two, even if they are rumors did it ever occur to anyone, including the media who should know such things, that if there are rumors circulating then it wasn't just the general public that did not know just how close the law enforcement was coming and that the actual assailent might be scrabbling and making slip ups all over the place because of these rumors? Glad to see that the channel as a whole decided to take away one of the only weapons we might have in this never ending battle for justice, which may only be something as simple as hype and/or hope that guilt or fear may lead this person to someday reveal themselves. You then used a picture of my now deceased neice in which she was alseep, which was in such bad taste that I literally had the breath taken out of me when I saw it, because its necessary to remind us all that her eyes will never open again? Or just for good ratings? Despite the fact that this photo was obviously given to you by someone involved with the story it is your job to know what should and should not be used in certain ways and that one should have raised a huge red flag before it was ever aired as being disrespectful and unneeded to complete your report. Who knows, maybe it did instill the sympathy you wanted from others by conveying just how sweet and innocent this young girl was, but to those of us close to her it was a crushing blow that we did not need on top of our own daily thoughts on the entire situation. I am excessively disappointed that as this point we can't even trust the media to portray this nightmare appropriately or in such a way that might help the people involved rather then just filling an extra five minutes you have in your program.
