I was scheduled to call marvin Monday morning, but all of the lines were busy. So on Tuesday when Woodtv announced Marvin online was available, I immediately claimed my unemployment online. When I went online Marvin accepted my claim but didn't give me any Dollar amount I will receive. I tried calling Marvin over the phone just incase the internet claim didnt work, but it didnt let me. Its friday and I have not received anything. Im worried cuase my bills are pileing up and im running out of food. Has anyone "called" marvin ONLINE and received their checks already? Anyone?

They later reported that is is not operational yet. They are still testing it, so it is possible yours was never received. Did you get a confirmation #?

I lost my job in 2008. I have been receiving benefits. I have been looking for work consistently but the market is very tough. In order to try and make ends meet I started some sub-contracting (selling popular products in home like party-lite). When you start doing things like that you can no longer call MARVIN. You have to do alot of paperwork and send or fax it in. There have been months that I don't receive my check for 3-4 weeks. By the time it arrives I am so far behind on my bills. It has been a nightmare for me, as alot of the people who work at the unemployment hotline just don't care. They don't complete your paperwork for whatever reason and after weeks of waiting you call and get another person who says "gee I do not know why they did not take care of that for you". I am fed up and I would love to be able to just find a job because this whole busines of jumping through hoops is just getting too stresful and ridiculous.

That was about the most stupid reply you could have come up with. This whole unemployment issue is not enjoyable to deal with, let alone for you to make make a dumb comment when she was obviously looking for helpful information.

WoodTV later said that the online Marvin was not available for use yet. Several times on the website and other media from UIA claimants are told that if they miss their Marvin appointment they should call on Thursday or Friday during open call-in. I'd say if you messed it up then you need to go through the frustrating process of calling the help line and hope you get somebody nice who will help you correct it. I've never gotten a nice person but they've always corrected and problems.

I messed mine up a few a weeks ago. I called the 1-800 number at 7:58 a.m. I got right though my first try. My advice is to call monday right away. They have been really nice and helpful, but that's just me. I have heard horrible stories of others on here. The service people being really short.

don't forget if this is your first time filing a claim you need to register on line first in Marvin and then you need to register at your nearest Michigan Works office to fill out their paperwork. That will validate your claim. If you don't go to Michigan Works, they will not process your claim. After that is done, it could be up to 3-4 weeks to get your first check. Keep calling on your scheduled day while waiting for your checks to arrive or that may keep you from getting anything. After that, if you can get through, your checks should come Friday/Saturday of the week you phoned in. My kids kept forgetting about the Michigan Works thing and got nothing for the first 3-4 weeks they were laid off. They couldn't go back and get it either. Getting your first checks are very difficult and I think the agency counts on people giving up or finding jobs within the first month so that they just give up trying to get their unemployement checks. It isn't just now. Over the past five years my kids between them have filed 5-6 times for unemployment because of seasonal jobs they had and they NEVER got the first 3-4 weeks they were off work. There was always something the state didn't tell them they needed to do

DO NOT USE A CELL PHONE. Lots and lots of people finally get through with their cells, only to have a dead battery and have to fight to get through again. Switching phones does nothing to increase your chances of getting through, that is some weird magical thinking. Keep hitting redial on busy signals and if you make it to hold, DO NOT HANG UP!

Not true. I'm on a 7 week layoff, and I got my first check right on time without going to the office or the website.

I am sorry you did not find one who was concerned. I did right before christmas and it was her personal goal to make sure I got my check. I got paid on the 24th, thankfully for me. I guess it is just the luck of the draw sometimes. Next time you will probably be the lucky one and I will be the one who gets the shaft. I hope things get better for you, because I truly understand what you are going through. It stinks.

My boyfriend has had several short layoffs since October.Up until the beginning of December he didn't have any trouble with unemployment. The last 2 times he's had a claim he's had trouble. The first time was early December, he still hasn't received money for that and now this time, his call in day to MARVIN was last Wednesday.Everything seemed to go through just fine and he was told he certified and to call the inquiry # if he didn't get money within 10 days and got a confirmation number but it didn't give him a dollar amount. Still no money in the account. The last few times the money was deposited by Friday when he called on Wednesday. He tried all day Friday to get through to someone (using cell & home phone) and only got the all circuits are busy recording from 8am until 4pm.Did anyone else certify ,get a confirmation # but not get their benefits? We live in Kentwood so going all the way to Plainfield in the hopes of actually getting in to talk to someone seems like a long shot.

These tips are a repeat of what you can find by accessing the unemployment site. I thought you had helpful tips that were not included on their site. This are uniformly unhelpful. Sure, you can call Marvin anytime on Thursday or Friday, but if you are living on a budget, that puts any money now out three or four more days. Infuriating.

I've called three times now, and it's never taken me longer than 15 minutes. I guess I must just be good at dialing.

I got laid off just before Christmas (thanks a lot)
and I got through and did everything, but I was expecting a check in the mail, then I get a "credit card" or, debit card from Chase bank. Does the money go to Chase bank? or do you get a check in the mail ?
I have been looking for it in the mail, how do I know if it's going to be in the mail, or , is it at Chase bank ???
does anyone know?
