Is there a boil water advisory for Holland and surrouding areas? Should one be called?

Why would anyone want surface contact with Lake Macatoliet even under normal circumstances. It's nothing more than a huge dumping pit anyway. I wouldn't swim or take a boat in there anyway. The few times I did take my boat there I ended up with a oily scum on my hull that would only come off with mineral spirits.

I grew up in the Holland area. I never have gone swimming in Lake Macatoilet and never will. It would be interesting if some research was done as to what is being carried into Lake Mac by the ground water seepage that goes through the old city dumps. The low ground that Padnos and the power plant (among others) are on was all city dump years ago. Also, just north of the River Avenue bridge, on the east side of River where Howard Avenue curves to meet Douglas Ave. was at one time city dump. Who knows what may be underground at those sites.

I should comment that the black color was there when Van Raalte led his people into the area, leading, at the time to the naming of the river and lake as Black River and Black Lake.

I'm sure we will have the same advisory in GH soon after all this rain. Husband wanted to go jetskiing next week......we may have to wait. Very sad when the water we are surrounded by is polluted by sewage that isn't even ours!
