I have a friend who was scammed by Matchmaker International. Anyone else out there having the same experience? They are charging her $500 for services she did not receive, and have gone as far as sending her account to collections.

Sorry "sue", I didnt hear anything about anybody else. I guess if she can prove it then shes ok, if not, then maybe she needs a lawyer? Of course it would probably be cheaper just to pay it & ax the lawyer..lol. What if she just let it go on her credit report? Would that hurt any?

I tried Match.com for a while and talking to some of those girls, they had nothing but crappy things to say about Matchmaker. It's a total ripoff...

I also learned that for most people on dating sites, there's a reason they are there...:-)

I used their services about 10 years ago. Man, that was a waste. I was in great shape, good job, nice paid for house, and they would set me up with losers. I do not smoke, and asked for non-smokers and nearly every loser they sent my way was a smoker. Most had no college and one was living with his Mom. I was in my 30's not so interested in a basement dweller. There was one guy whom I met at a neutral location, as I always did, and then after the short lunch date, he freaking followed me home. Yikes, he was a piece of work, I am not sure they screen things very well, maybe it is better now? I did meet one super nice guy, who was moving to Alaska shortly. Not following him there. It was a great waste of money.

Your friend is going to have to file a complaint with her cc company and have a new card issued. If it has gone into collections she/he will have to let them know that it is in dispute. I would file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Make numerous calls to MatchMaker and send letters. I have found that www.planetfeedback.com is a great place to help with lodging complaints and assist with letter writing and then are sent via e-mail directly to the CEO's of any given company.

I do not believe in using an on-line dating service that you have to pay for when there are many available for free.

Common sense is when you start dating an individual, meet in public places and drive yourself. Always notify friends/family that you have a date and where this date will take place. Never give out any personal information such as your address til you know that the relationship is moving forward. These are just a few safe tips.

I did on-line dating for in my small town everyone is married to everyone and are related in some way or form. I met a lot of creeps, made friends and I am now engaged.

Good luck to your friend!

As a past employee of MatchMaker International my suggestion is to contact not only the better business bureau, but to contact your local news channel and let them in on what is going on. Next contact the Attorney General's office the more complaints about the company they receive the more likely MatchMaker International will not be able to scam lonely people out of their money. These are just regular people putting people of roughly the same age together, they've had no previous experience in psychology or any other college/professional backgrounds. DO NOT GIVE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION TO THEM FOR THE BACKGROUND CHECK, they will run your credit card information to find out the available balances on your credit card!!!*******

I have been exploited for this company's profit. Instead of being matched with men that were suitable for me, I have been used as an introductory match for men that have just signed up. I asked to be matched with men in a certain age group, instead I have been matched with men much older than me. I asked to be matched with men within 50 miles of me, this didn't happen either. They have no intention of finding a good match for me. Their only priority is making money. They have a forced arbitration clause in their contract which states that you must use BBB. A company that THEY PAY a membership fee to. Can you say conflict of interest?!?!

MatchMaker International is truly a horrible company. My friend worked there for years and the owner of the company made her workers believe that if they did not bully, or do whatever it took to enroll someone on an expensive membership that, that person would be forever lonely and it would be the workers fault for not enrolling them! Thus, the girls there would litterally do or say whatever it took to get the client to agree to do a ridiculously expensive program...there is a clause in the contract that says "client agrees there is no refund upon cancellation for any reason whatsoever..." Trust me they stand behind their contract 100%! No matter what happens they pride themselves on giving NO REFUNDS! This is one company that should be shut down! Their office is located at 2450 44th St Suite 205 Kentwood MI 49512. The owner's name is Nancy Schollhammer, she works mainly in the Flint office and is the Owner of the Grand Rapids MI office too...let her know what you think of her and her slimy business! The Attorney General's Office is stocked full of complaints on them. And more just keep coming in!

This company is definitely out to scam people. They charge everyone a different price and they DO NOT PROVIDE THE SERVICE. I got matched with two LOSERS, and when I requested that at the very least I was to be matched with men who were not divorced with children and perhaps college educated, they STOPPED matching me altogether! Now they are refusing to refund my money and have stopped responding to my complaints. Very unprofessional and pathetic business-owners.
