Clean facilities, exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, open 24/7, 365 days a year, 18 and over only (huge selling point), and FM broadcast throughout the club so I can pick up the national news or my favorite show on my iPod while I work out. AFP, as we members call it for short, absolutely rocks!

I signed up during the 2010 Fall Fitness Sale and got free group exercise classes with my pre-paid membership. I have 24-hour workout access with my own key card, and the options to tan, utilize personal training services or snag a massage for only a pittance more. It's nice not having to trek all over town in MI winter weather - American Fitness Partners offers all of these services conveniently under one roof. Love it!

I would be afraid to pay for a years membership anywhere these days. How often have you seen it on the news where a person joins a health club, pays a years membership and then finds the doors locked when they go to workout. If you can find a place that allows "pay as you go", you are much better off.

This is a great little local club with a full time on site owner manager (not an out of state owner). The negative review by Sad is a malicious computer generated review by a Florida blogger who has never been in the club and nothing in her review is true. The Living Social vouchers were just sold on line on Thursday but were not available for redemption until Friday. It was impossible for her to get in to the club to redeem her voucher because the Membership Office is closed on Fridays and there were no employees here on Friday when she says she was in the club (she flew up from Florida for a $40 voucher?) I have seen most of the group classes and they all have between 5 25 students per class and all the instructors have 10 or more years experience (no videos anywhere in the club). There is no requirement to purchase anything when redeeming your Living Social vouchers. I have used clubs all over the US and Europe and I can highly recommend this club.

I saw this review on KUDZU and the author has removed it and said she posted it by mistake. She said that she was writing a review about another club on the same street with a similar name but posted it here by mistake. It still remains on Topix but it has been removed by the author from all the other web sites like KUDZU and CitySearch and MerchantCircle. Topix should remove this review. It makes no sense since the author was writing about another club, and this club was actually closed to non-members on the day in question.

I bought a $40 Living Social deal (groupon) for this fitness club. The voucher entitled me to 3 months access to the gym. I was sad to find out when I brought it in that they would not let me use the voucher I purchased unless I also purchased an additional 1-year membership from them. No where in the fine print did it include paying for any additional membership fees. I felt ripped off. Thankfully Living Social gave me a refund after I explained what had happened.
Also, they dont have group classes liike they say on their website. Only videos that you watch by yourself.

This is a great club if you work long hours or have a busy schedule. You can always find time to get to the club since it is never closed. Very clean and well run. Great value for the dollar.

The owner really cares about supporting the local community and he works hard to use local suppliers and support local companies. I learned about Local First at the club and you should check out www.localfirst.com if the Michigan economy is important to you.

The group classes are really popular. All the instructors are very friendly and helpful.

You should be more affaid to join a "pay as you go" or so called "no contract" club. Here is why:(i) no contract clubs fill up with one and two month members in Jan and Feb and it is impossible to get on the equipment, which is unfair to the long term members and is just the justification the short term members are looking for to give up on a health club,(ii) no contract clubs have large initiation fees and the fine print will require a month in advance and 45 days notice to cancel and in the end they get you for the equivalent of 6 months but you only get 3 months use,(iii) no contract clubs do not verify the identity of their members and the large turn over in membership makes it impossible for the staff to know the members (very unsafe in any club, especially in a 24 hour club),(iv) no contract only protects the club owner not the customer, once they have your credit card number they can change the terms of the deal and continue to charge you forever and it is diffcult to prove to the bank that the owner has changed the terms,(v) no contract clubs lose most of their members in the summer so they can't afford air conditioning, and (vi) its the no contract clubs that go out of business the most because they can't make it through the summer with no members. In the end it it always better to join a club for a fix agreed upon term for a fixed low price with no sign up fees. This way you know the club will be less crowded and it will be well run.
