I heard that if you are using a satellite provider, such as Dish Network or DirecTV, you may also see the red picture, however, you will not need to take any action. Is this true?

Those are 2 different televisions. I would imagine if I parked an old escort next to a newer grand am, one would look better. Whoever is the online editor needs to be fired.

If you are watching DirectVT or Dish Networks, it's a closed system. You won't need to change anything, because the satellite receiver converts the satellite broadcast signal to something usable by your television already. Just like cable subscribers are immune to this change as well.

If you are old-school, don't have a cable or satellite connection, and rabbit ears are the way you live your life, then you need a digital converter box. Fortunately, most rabbit ears can be used as the antenna source for your converter box. Just run the output from the rabbit ears (if they have a coax out) into the digital converter box, then run that into the back of your TV.

Easy stuff....

I will be so glad when this crap is over with. I'm sick to death of hearing about it and seeing it every two seconds interrupting shows.

It's pretty sad that we can't even get WoodTV Digital HD 7 or 8 in Muskegon county! We can watch analog channel 8 just fine. I just hope WoodTV will boost their POWER! We really don't want to watch channel 46 low power station since they don't broadcast at 1080i. The picture looks very grainy watching any analog channel. If we can't get Woodtv from GR in HD, we are hoping TV7 from Traverse City will broadcast in 1080i. We will have to wait and see what will happen after the shutdown. Let's just hope the FCC will let all TV stations double their power output and that will solve all of their problems!

It's about time, was it neccesary to tell us about the conversion for so long? Apparently we must be idiot's not to realize this after the first week of alerts.

What's really dumb is that when there is a crawling thing on the bottom of the TV screen, you think that it is an accident or breaking news, then you find out that it is actually something stupid that says: "Ready for the switch to digital signals on February 17,2009?"

To make people like Bruce in Whitehall happy. His large screen tv needs HD to have a good picture. However, there is a price to pay for the digital signal. Often, with the analog signal, you could watch a channel that was marginal reception, just put up with a little snow in the picture. With digital, you will NOT recieve the same channel! With digital it's all or nothing.

Bruce in Whirehall, you might have to upgrade your antenna installation. Put up a better antenna and/or put it up higher. And maybe add a preamp up by the antenna.

That test is so fake. My analog picture was never that bad on any tv. In fact there is no difference in a properly set up analog tv.

But if you parked an old grand am next to an old escort, they would both look crappy... like both of those televisions. They are comparing rotten apples to rotten apples.

Amazing how much time, effort, and energy goes into something as trite as television.

I wonder what the results would be if they advertised the need for donations for the homeless as regularly as they do the switchover to precious digital TV. TV sucks. If mine doesn't "pass the almighty test" I might just set it on the curb. It only reminds you of what you should have/should be from a fake Hollywood perspective, anyway.

They sure do thing we are dumb, I am so tired of hearing this crap and seeing scroll at the bottom of my set. I do like the converter at my travel trailer, I can get more channels when I am camping. That is the only good thing I can see about going digital, of course networks like that because they can sell more advertising time.
