If you were still in your mother's womb, would you be in favor of abortions?

"America needs no words from me to see how your decision in Roe v. Wade has deformed a great nation. The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and women against men. It has sown violence and discord at the heart of the most intimate human relationships. It has aggravated the derogation of the father's role in an increasingly fatherless society. It has portrayed the greatest of gifts -- a child -- as a competitor, an intrusion, and an inconvenience. It has nominally accorded mothers unfettered dominion over the independent lives of their physically dependent sons and daughters"
And, in granting this unconscionable power, it has exposed many women to unjust and selfish demands from their husbands or other sexual partners. Human rights are not a privilege conferred by government. They are every human being's entitlement by virtue of his humanity. The right to life does not depend, and must not be declared to be contingent, on the pleasure of anyone else, not even a parent or a sovereign." (Mother Theresa -- "Notable and Quotable," Wall Street Journal, 2/25/94, p. A14)
February 1997 - National Prayer Breakfast in Washington attended by the President and the First Lady. "What is taking place in America," she said, "is a war against the child. And if we accept that the mother can kill her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another."

So true. Mother Teresa was awesome. Pro-abortion people are sick and wrong.

I don't feel abortion is "great", however, it doesn't disgust me.

As many times as this topic has been debated, I doubt you will find too many people that will comment. Then again, it has been awhile since this topic has been debated, so you never know! LOL

At any rate, this is such a touchy subject (obviously). On a personal note, when my mom got pregnant at 16 with me, she wanted to have an abortion. The man she decided to pin the pregnancy on wouldn't have it. So, here I am. Now, on one hand I think I would rather not have lived the childhood that I did filled with abusive, alcoholic parents that were teens. And later went through the nastiest divorce in the county where I had to testify at age 12 on the stand. On the other hand, I lived through everything and now have a great life and three handsome children of my own.

On another personal note, while I have always thought that I could never have an abortion myself, the thought has crossed my mind of what-ifs. For instance, I had a tubular ligation after my third child because I knew I didn't want any more. But I know several people that have gotten pregnant after that procedure and it has made me think about what would I do? Part of me says that if it happened, then God wanted it to and I should feel blessed. The other part says I really don't want another child. I really, really don't. Hopefully I never find myself in that predicament.

I have always felt (and still do) that it is a woman's right to choose. It is her body first and foremost. Again though, on the other hand, when one of my good friends called to tell me that she had an abortion, I broke down crying. A reaction I didn't expect.

So it isn't always so black and white. Just because I am pro-choice doesn't mean that I think abortion is great or think it's the way to go. But forcing an unwanted child on a person ends up with that child losing. Often times living a miserable life.

There is no right or wrong answer on this subject.

"It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish."
Mother Teresa

Abortion is a result of our crime upon humanity. It began well before the actual act. We still hold the nail and hammer. To view it as 'a choice' one has been violated in so many other countless ways. Love, Hope, Faith, and guidance have been sorely missing in their life.-Me

The left tries to open up access, the right tries to limit it. Over the past 40 years the political tide has shifted several times, yet the number of abortions occurring every year has remained amazingly consistant. Ever wonder why that is? Because neither really gives a siht about the unborn, but they both care a great deal about preserving the debate. The left so they they can proclaim the power of the ya-ya sisterhood by preserving the rights of a 19 year old girl to make a life changing decision when she's barely equipped to think for herself as it is. And the right who love nothing more than to put on that armor made from 'slaughtered babies' so they can proclaim their moral superiority. The men as a coping mechinism because they are afraid of thier women, and the women to assuage thier guilt for that lost weekend in college that led them to get the 'ol D&C.

This very difficult, painful, PRIVATE decision has been co-opted and turned into a political circus. You people want to promote life? Take the 20 minutes you would've devoted to all this moral outrage, and get your fat azzes on a treadmill.

Oddly, the Right who usually is supporting "self choice and responsibility" wants to control other people's wombs. Also, against health care and food stamps that these unborn children will sometimes need. Kind of hypocritical I'd say.

Miss you too baby! I try to stay in touch, but you know how it is; 90% of the crap on here is just that, and not worth my time. I really enjoyed your post so thought I'd throw one out there...Oh and you can disregard the 'treadmill' comment; I'm sure you and I can find a more creative way to burn off those calories.:-)

Why don't you and your abortion-loving friends exercise your "choice" and "freedom" before you have sex? You already have reproductive freedom without abortion - you have the freedom not to have sex. The Left is just looking to excuse their own irresponsible behavior and promiscuity. They want to force other people to pay to kill their own children, and they want to force the taxpayers to pay for their STD treatments.

Abortion is the destruction of innocent human life. That's a fundamental truth that cannot be denied, no matter how you attempt to excuse it.

You know it's funny, at my age I've come to know quite a few women, several of whom have had abortions at one time or another in thier lives. Interestingly, the more right-wing conservative female friends were much more likely to have shall we say,'sent an eviction notice to her little boom-boom trophy'. I think it's because my female hippie friends grew up in more tolerant households, so by the time they were 14 or 15 already had good communication with thier parents about sex and birth control. The nice Dutch CRC girl was more likely to get knocked-up, and once she did, no amount of guilt, or prosletyzing, or calling her whore, would stop her from going to an OBGYN (one in Grand Rapids of course, not her regular one in Holland) and telling him "I just want it out of me".

i still don't understand you guys with your "all or none" approach to this subject. if a woman is gang-raped, does she have to bear and raise the resulting product? if a fetus is determined to have multiple birth defects, must this mother be obligated to bear it and raise it, knowing perhaps hundreds of thousands of dollars will be spent keeping it alive? are you right wing folks going to say you must birth it, but the "system" has no obligation to the costs involved in raising it and keeping it alive? all i can say is WOW..
