Top notch police work, when will we all get our heads out of our **** es. This war on drugs is a joke its not working. Now were shooting people over about 6 joints. What a total waste of resources, this is the same reason prohibition was repealed. Marijuana laws are unenforceable. Not to mention the money pissed away keeping those evil pot heads in jail. Course gotta feed that cottage industry of judges attorneys and corrections officials, what would all those people do ? Oh make a living off DUI laws and no-fault divorces. Than we get to pay for their entitlements. Imagine what kind of mess we would be in without all this.
You are right this is high quality police work. This is what these guys do, this petty BS, all the time. I can't wait to see the Affidavit. It will probably be full of the usual WEMET BS, the same crap that is in all of their Affidavits. Now that we know what this was about the shooting is even more outrageous. We are literally talking about a few joints. In light of this Huizenga's law enforcement career should probably be over.

Then you must agree with prosecuting Officer Huzinga to the fullest also. After all, he is an Officer of the Law with a loaded weapon, that shot an UNARMED kid.

Did our fine, up-standing college student, pay the taxes on his drug sales? Did he keep records on this income from his business dealings selling drugs?
$50 dollar drug deal, at 6% Michigan sales tax, is a pretty good chunk. How many of these drug sales that he made to other people, other than the police, has he reported as income to the state and federal government.
Come on. We know he hasn't and will not. But, why not since he is the innocent one here... Right!!!
How does his parents support his selling drugs illegally? Apparently they condone it.
Apparently he learned, from his parents, it's ok to break the law. But when you get caught, then blame everyone but yourself.
Yep, he's a real winner.
I say prosecute to the fullest.
Thanks Ottawa County Prosecutors office. You are the best.

why do people think this kid is such a hero?
he delt illegal drugs to an officer.
how much more of the drugs went to your sons and daughters at the college.
he should get 10 years for dealing drugs and kicked out of school.
the news media make the police the bad guy, this kid should of had his as. kicked first then shot.

I'm glad they finally got around to charging this guy, as the cop has already been charged. While the deputy should not have shot this guy, the way the headline reads (1/8 ounce of pot) makes you think that this drug dealer is barely guilty. Read further and you'll see that he and his roommate had a history of drug dealing. When interviewed right after the shooting, the apartment dweller immediately next to the dealer's apartment seemed to not be surprised that his next door neighbor was dealing drugs. He seemed to know all about it. Dealling this much pot is a lesser offense than dealing larger quantities, but make no mistake that this guy is a drug dealer. It could have been your teenager he was going to sell to next. This guy is not an innocent bystander as foolish and uninformed college students have made him out to be. If he's found guilty, he's a drug dealer, and that's a pretty heinous crime in my book.

Looking at GR Pete's comments, it looks like WEMET knows where to go next. Sounds like an easy bust to me.

One difference between Copp and cop is that it was no accident that Copp sold pot to people.I don't think Derek accidentally took $$ from someone & handed over the pot.
