How many marijuana deaths in America?

Answer:
The CDC reports no more than 1 to 2 deaths in America annually, that are the underlying cause by cannabis use alone.

#24.(Marijuana Safety - DEA Administrative Law Judge's Ruling)
"3. The most obvious concern when dealing with drug safety is the possibility of lethal effects. Can the drug cause death?
"4. Nearly all medicines have toxic, potentially lethal effects. But marijuana is not such a substance. There is no record in the extensive medical literature describing a proven, documented cannabis-induced fatality.
"5. This is a remarkable statement. First, the record on marijuana encompasses 5,000 years of human experience. Second, marijuana is now used daily by enormous numbers of people throughout the world. Estimates suggest that from twenty million to fifty million Americans routinely, albeit illegally, smoke marijuana without the benefit of direct medical supervision. Yet, despite this long history of use and the extraordinarily high numbers of social smokers, there are simply no credible medical reports to suggest that consuming marijuana has caused a single death.
"6. By contrast aspirin, a commonly used, over-the-counter medicine, causes hundreds of deaths each year.
"7. Drugs used in medicine are routinely given what is called an LD-50. The LD-50 rating indicates at what dosage fifty percent of test animals receiving a drug will die as a result of drug induced toxicity. A number of researchers have attempted to determine marijuana's LD-50 rating in test animals, without success. Simply stated, researchers have been unable to give animals enough marijuana to induce death.
"8. At present it is estimated that marijuana's LD-50 is around 1:20,000 or 1:40,000. In layman terms this means that in order to induce death a marijuana smoker would have to consume 20,000 to 40,000 times as much marijuana as is contained in one marijuana cigarette. NIDA-supplied marijuana cigarettes weigh approximately .9 grams. A smoker would theoretically have to consume nearly 1,500 pounds of marijuana within about fifteen minutes to induce a lethal response.
"9. In practical terms, marijuana cannot induce a lethal response as a result of drug-related toxicity."

#25(Dangers of New Prescription Drugs)

"Each year offers new examples of injuries and deaths caused by untoward dangers in prescription drugs. Prominent illustrations from recent years include Vioxx, a popular arthritis painkiller that more than doubled the risk of heart attacks and strokes,6 a risk that lingered long after users stopped taking the drug;7 “Phen-fen,” a diet drug that caused heart damage;8 and Propulsid, a drug that reduced gastric acid but also threatened patients’ hearts.9 Once information on these side-effects became known to the public, the manufacturers of each of these drugs stopped selling them and, eventually, paid millions or billions of dollars to settle claims for resulting injuries.10 Merck, for example, having withdrawn the profitable Vioxx drug11 from the market in 2004, settled nearly 50,000 Vioxx cases in late 2007 for $4.85 billion.12 In 2009, Eli Lilly agreed to plead guilty and pay $1.415 billion in criminal and civil penalties for promoting its antipsychotic drug, Zyprexa, as suitable for uses not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”).13 These cases may be among the more prominent, but they represent just the tip of the iceberg of damage caused by prescription drugs."

21.(Leading Causes of Death 2000) "The leading causes of death in 2000 were tobacco (435,000 deaths; 18.1% of total US deaths), poor diet and physical inactivity (400,000 deaths; 16.6%), and alcohol consumption (85,000 deaths; 3.5%). Other actual causes of death were microbial agents (75,000), toxic agents (55,000), motor vehicle crashes (43,000), incidents involving firearms (29,000), sexual behaviors (20,000), and illicit use of drugs (17,000)."

Note: According to a correction published by the Journal on January 19, 2005, "On page 1240, in Table 2,'400,000 (16.6)' deaths for 'poor diet and physical inactivity' in 2000 should be '365,000 (15.2).' A dagger symbol should be added to 'alcohol consumption' in the body of the table and a dagger footnote should be added with 'in 1990 data, deaths from alcohol-related crashes are included in alcohol consumption deaths, but not in motor vehicle deaths. In 2000 data, 16,653 deaths from alcohol-related crashes are included in both alcohol consumption and motor vehicle death categories."

I really don't care about your analysis or opinion Onasty.
The Dow is up right now, so are the wider indexes. Inflation is low and holding steady. Interest rates and low and expected to stay low for the foreseeable future, And while they aren't back to the levels before the bubble, property values are on the rise. So are my property taxes, but that's a different story. In my books, That's all that matters. Is the economy overall as robust and I'd like, NO but it surely is better than it was 5 years ago. I see people all the time, driving new or newer cars, many of them high end gas guzzlers, even with gas prices at the pump @ 3.75. So where's the beef?
Did they raise your lot fees in the trailer park you live in?
As for investments, my 401ks (yes plural) are worth over double what they were in 2009. Been up and down some, but the trend upward has been remarkably consistent. When companies and business decides to get off all the cash they've been stockpiling, and hiring picks up, the market can only get better. YIPPEEE, I will be able to sell my homes and move south or out west where my wonderful kids are.
How about yours? You got a couple dollars in a checking account getting a whopping .1% interest LOL.
The value of my homes are also up. That's always good news.
You don't have any money saved in a retirement account, and you rent (or sponge off your parents in your basement dive) so home values wouldn't matter to you.

He wants to make it all about him. I think the information that made me the sickest is the knowledge he imparted that he has already had children. I really feel bad for those children as all they have ever learned is foul mouthed whining about life treating them badly.

Holy crap! That stuff is dangerous! That stuff kills all by itself! I would think that it would make you have stupid decisions that would then result in death by other objects. But your stats are for just that substance alone. Not even adding to the mix that another drug was mixed or laced in. Good thing that crap is illegal.

Just thoughts on the abortion issue its probably already been said but what the heck.

We as a society will spend thousands if not millions to locate missing children who have been abducted or worse. When it comes to abortion though its a different story, I see no difference myself its a life plain and simple and it feels pain and is probably the most innocent life. I have no answer to this just my thoughts on life itself all life bugs elephants, whales, and all in between, oh there are the few pests we have to deal with but how many millions have been spent on other species and their survival while we kill babies in the womb and flush them down the toilet, shameful..

Thanks for enlightening us about yourself onasty. Nice move.

BTW, you 'really' sound jealous that I'm doing so well in O's economy. Investments and property values going up, my kids all have good jobs ....

But you are unemployable still living with mom. Why is is that?

Why don't you just dial 1-800-EAT-SHIT and complain to them about your trailer park fees going up again or at least find a job. Plenty in the fast food industry. Your obese, lazy hulk will fit right in there.
