In President Obama's push to crack down on the abundance of firearms in America, proposed gun-control legislation may be having the opposite effect.
Updated FBI statistics show that background checks in the first three months of the year far outpace the number of checks in early 2012. The stats show that from January through March, gun owners went through 7 million background checks -- compared with just 4.8 million in the first three months of last year.

Hey, Obama should be given credit where credit is due - he just created thousands of jobs within the gun-manufacturing and sales industry, to say nothing of creating revenue for the NRA's future lobbying pull.

Everyone thank the anti-gun president for guaranteeing the gun industry remains one of the few truly profitable areas of our economy.

Imagine if Barry threatened to support pro-life. Every liberal in the country would be getting pregnant so they could get an abortion before it's no longer legal.

I thank him for it so much I bought lifetime memberships to the NRA for me and the rest of the family. As soon as a hand gun I've been looking at is available I will add that to my collection just for the cause.

Well, be careful now, Ron. Adding another gun to your collection might seem to some around these parts to be "greedy". Maybe you shouldn't support a business by purchasing their product, thus aiding them in turning a .... gulp ... profit. Profits aren't something we should be promoting in America after all. That's downright capitalistic and therefore wrong.

Far better to just hang out at a convenience store and wait for a panhandler to approach you so you could give that money to him or her. I'm sure what they would do with your money would be far more beneficial to society than some business owning taxpayer that provides you with a product for a price.

Do you really believe these numbers are accurate? Go to the gun shops and talk to the owners, see what they say. Try Silver Bullet and ask them how many new shooters there are. You would be hard pressed to find a home in my area that didn't own a gun. Many people also do not come forward about gun ownership when being polled. Could it be they are afraid of a government sponsored door to door confiscation?

Disagree with a poll and then try and dis-credit it. Facts are, gun ownership has dropped significantly since the 1980s and the rise in sales are due largely to the fact that the same people are buying multiple guns.

You can say you're right and that it's a conspiracy of some kind but I'll follow the stats.

I don't even think Obama wants us to give to the panhandlers. The king wants to be the one to hand out the money.

I'll trust multiple, nationwide surveys and the people who sift through the data before I go by what the dude at the Silver Bullet 'thinks'.

I'm not sure I'd trust anything produced by the University of Chicago, where this particular survey you cited came from.

Regardless, the poll was taken every two years starting in the '70's. The title of this thread clearly references the recent push to crack down on guns. Even if the University of Chicago's poll is correct, the data retrieved is too long of a span to be relevant on this topic. Unless your point is just that back in the '70's more people reported owning guns, which could lead to another debate entirely of honest citizens are when polled in today's over-politicized climate.

The fact remains, since Obama made gun control his next issue to focus on like a laser beam (instead of jobs and the economy), gun sales have indeed skyrocketed. Many manufacturers have had to hold orders because they cannot produce guns fast enough.

If the U. of Chicago poll is an honest one, their next figures should reflect this.

I just got home from the store, still no ammo SS. Just in women alone joining the ranks of hunters and shooters has increased the numbers of gun owners significantly, through in post 9/11 citizens, and more gun control hype the numbers have skyrocketed. You can take that to the bank. I would be suspicious of the credibility of your news resource if I were you. Figures can lie and liars can figure.

You should always ignore the surveys that you don't like and observe the ones you like. Also only listen to the people you agree with. In your mind you will always be right then.

Hahaha Good luck with that. The experts here on Topix know better and always believe without question what they hear on faux news or read on theBlaze. If it comes off a right ring rag its gospel. Studies and nationwide surveys be damned.
