Went to food market and found a large amount of food stamp activity for junk when I am paying cash for nutrition. Govt steals from me to get these people fat? I want to leave more for my kids. Leave me alone and I will keep my rights.

Nothing you said Steelie related to what I said. When I get the chance to go back and dig through I'll post the link and you can argue with them.
Again, and again, and again, I am not in favor of a VAT. I do recognize though the differences is discussing and debating the different avenues of how to rectify an issue and automatically deeming any one as to what will be done. We, as a country, have been through this VAT "debate" before. And we will continue to until this idea that this country was set up to advantage ONLY the individual(s) is abandoned.
Yes it was set up to give more individual freedom(s). But NEVER at the cost of the [new] countries General Welfare. Tea Partiers of today are lacking 80% of the meaning of the Boston Tea Party, their name sake. It was about shaking off the tyranny of the powerful. And that is not restricted to just the government. There is a line Mel Gibson says in The Patriot; why should I trade one tyrant 3,000 miles away for 3,000 tyrants one mile away? Yes he was talking about a Legislature, a government, but it also holds true for any tyrannical power. And unless one is looking through eyes with blinders on money buys EVERYTHING today. Well, it always has, but.... And the moneyed few, unless you want to deny there is the 1%, has purchased our government all but completely. INCLUDING foreign moneyed influences. But the way the right-wing would have it is kill the patient (government)rather than first take all measures to rid them of the disease. And the system our Founding Fathers set up has made it possible for the People to do just that.
It's an age only syndrome. There have always been those who believe they can become as rich and powerful as others are and they certainly don't want a system changed that will hinder it. If only I can hold onto the coat tails of those who have made it to where I want to be, I'll get there too.
To your point though. I would never say Europe has it so much better than we do. But the advantages our country has gives it NO EXCUSE for the situation we are in.
Watch the movie, more of a documentary, Collapse.
Good Day,

Hey SIB! We agree on many points. But is it not the modern "tyranny" of Washington that is worthy of fighting against? Hmmm...

I actually think our government was set up quite well. I'd rather go after the individual legislators, and especially the lobbyists that have been using it for their own gain.

There is NOTHING, zip ziltch in the Constitution that allows for lobbyists.

Agreed....since they finally outlawed using insider information for financial gain, it's time to outlaw outside financial support, to dictate legislative course.....including threat of political racketeering.....

Yes.

And something that just reentered my mind is that is EXACTLY why the 5 conservatives on the Supreme Court ruled to give corporations person-hood and money speech. So that Constitutionally corporations could have a legal say in the government and their money would be their speech. Legalizing bribery. Legalizing bribing the government.

I was meaning more like an all too powerfull lobbyist, like Grover Norquist.....who dictates how taxes are governed, by threatening organized crimin...er, corporate funding to defeat any politician, not surrendering to his or their will.....highly troubling.....Sorry, i am off track a bit...

I got that. Which to me ties in with what I said about the 5 conservatives justices making it Constitutionally legal to bribe our legislators through campaign and other contributions.

The Constitution gives the People the right to influence their government. Not companies and/or corporations through lobbyists. Now those companies and corporations are "legally" persons and their speech.

Which to put another point on it makes them subject to the death penalty for crimes against "humanity". Taking away their legal protections as corporations. It should be done so that they are stripped of their corporation protections as long as they are now persons.

Perhaps the time has come to stop treating the constitution with the reverence of the Ten Commandments and remember, the difference in times and society, since they were drawn up?

Isn't that like saying to stop the reverence for the Bible and remember the difference in times and society since it was written?

I think I get what you mean but the law of the land is the law of the land until it's changed to be "more up to date".

If we were on the Five Shot at Gun Shows thread I would have a better idea of what exactly you are getting at.

Please expound so I know I'm not misinterpreting.
