I would think any heavy use of any substance legal or illegal be it pot, mountain dew, or red bull would cause abnormal brain structure..

Interesting to note: "These abnormalities were recorded two years after the teens stopped using marijuana, possibly indicating long-term effects, and look similar to schizophrenia-related brain abnormalities. "

and

"The brains were shaped more abnormally for individuals who began marijuana use at a younger age"

But it's a harmless weed...really?

The study defined 'heavy' use as 'daily'.
I've had coffee daily for decades and my brain structure isn't abnormal.
I've had water daily for my entire life and my brain structure isn't abnormal.
I take Naprosyn daily (and have for several years) and my brain structure isn't abnormal.

Denial...it's not just a river in Egypt.

Side effects of Naprosyn: Serious effects of cariovascular thrombotic events including stroke which happens to involve the brain. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

NSAIDs may cause an increased risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, myocardial infarction, and stroke, which can be fatal. This risk may increase with duration of use. Patients with cardiovascular disease or risk factors for cardiovascular disease may be at greater risk (see WARNINGS).
Naproxen as NAPROSYN, EC-NAPROSYN, ANAPROX, ANAPROX DS or NAPROSYN Suspension is contraindicated for the treatment of peri-operative pain in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery (see WARNINGS).
Gastrointestinal Risk

NSAIDs cause an increased risk of serious gastrointestinal adverse events including bleeding, ulceration, and perforation of the stomach or intestines, which can be fatal. These events can occur at any time during use and without warning symptoms. Elderly patients are at greater risk for serious gastrointestinal events (see WARNINGS).

How do you know your brain structure isn't abnormal? You don't. Even if these opinion based studies are factual it doesn't give the government, you or anyone of your big alcohol/big pharma buddies the right to put anyone in jail, ruin their lives or strip away their freedom. End of story. You want to keep it away from children? Legalize it and regulate it, just like alcohol. A regulated establishment won't sell to those under 21 while the dude in the upstairs apartment would sell weed to a 3rd grader. Less children would have access to pot if it were legalized and that's a fact.

If we were stupid enough to legalize it you potheads would then say. "It must not be that bad if they went from it being a illegal "bad" drug to a "ok" legal drug." Good method, if you don't want someone to have it just legalize it. How can anyone argue with that logic? Or should I say a potheads so called facts?

How do you know that your brain is not affected or abnormal and who are those that determine what normal and abnormal is, doctors? politicians? You see you messed there is no river in Egypt called "denial" its The Nile River, so your brain is messed up.

These are a must read. They outline the REAL dangers of drugs in this Country...and much to the disappointment of the mj thread starters, much much more serious.
But then again, any prescription drug is a GOOD drug right??
Why aren't people more concerned about this problem??
These are the drugs teenagers prefer and are getting...somehow...

All drugs can be abused and should not be used if not need for medical purposes. The answer to your question is no we don't.

Not to be a smarta$$ but certain drugs are legal non-prescription and abused all the time. Alcohol and nicotine are prime examples. Caffine not so much but there is always someone who will abuse any drug.
And of course there's the other extreme...Hemp is classified as a drug in the same group as mj which is nuts.

And as a second note...it doesn't excuse sports fans and parents cheering while the participants in some game cheer while the players get their heads bashed and end up with brain injuries.
Parents that object to their child using mj because their brain may become abnormal but send them on to the football field to bash heads and cause permanent brain injury reeks of hyprocrisy at best. Ignorance also.

Sassy, how does it feel to be wrong all the time? A stroke is a whole lot different than abnormal brain structure and has a completely different cause.
Funny how I can take Naprosyn for years and not have had a stroke while someone who smokes pot daily for years will have abnormal brain structure similar to a schizophrenic.

How about the junkies who live on this garbage called 5 hour energy or this Monster crap they drink, or the mountain dew addicts, I cant believe that beverage companies like coke pepsi and others are allowed to sell products that have been proven to do real harm but woe to those who may smoke a joint or two a day. To be serious though I have been smoking mj off and on for over 30 years, so I am proof its not addictive or causes any harm for I am a very healthy person 58 years old and take zero prescriptions for anything. So if you will excuse me I worked about 12 hours today so I am going to fire up and mello out. Have fun with the debate I will check in later.
