CNN's coverage of the Steubenville, Ohio, rape verdict involving a pair of high-school football players is being criticized for its focus on the rapists rather than the 16-year-old victim.

["I've never experienced anything like it," CNN correspondent Poppy Harlow said live outside the juvenile court in Steubenville. "It was incredibly emotional—incredibly difficult even for an outsider like me to watch what happened as these two young men that had such promising futures, star football players, very good students, literally watched as they believe their life fell apart." ...]

How about they threw their lives down the path to jail when they raped a 16 year old girl, Poppy?

These rapists were found guilty, and the CNN anchors and correspondents showed more sympathy to the rapists than the victim.

I guess, much like violating traffic laws, it's always the justice system that's to blame.

I understand several of the news outlets, including FOX, named the underage victim. Guess that's why I don't watch the "news" anymore and a lot of Americans don't watch the "news" anymore.

I guess the hypocrite liberals on this site only care when someone brings up a GOP war on women so they can pretend to be outraged.

Actually the story maybe should have been that two drunk male children raped one drunk female child, which resulted in three young lives sadly altered from what they could have been. The two male rapists, tried as minors will probably still carry the stigma as a sexual predators. If its true that FAUX News actually reported the victim's name, then I'm sure that her path to recovery will be longer than it needed to be.

However, to find the real War on Women, we should see if the victim is pregnant......

Not Pregnant - It must have been a Legitimate Rape.

Pregnant - A Gift from God!

You've reached a new level of perverse idiot.

The real story should be two equally idiotic sick degenerates were found guilty of rape - period. CNN's concern for the poor, sick rapists, not to mention their personal opinions, should never have been aired and the criticism they've taken was warranted.

Need I remind you?

http://www.politico.com/story/2013/02/2014-go...

Conservatives should be applauding CNN by making the victim into the monster here because it's part of their party's platform! This is just deflection and spin. They're taking a beating from the rest of the country (the Majority) and are now finger pointing at the other guy saying "Look! They do it too!"

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/...

---Republican activist Phyllis Schlafly declared that marital rape doesn't exist, because when you get married you sign up to be sexually available to your husband at all times.----

---They propose laws that would require women to tell their employers what they're using birth control for, so that employers could determine which women don't deserve coverage (the slutty ones who use birth control to avoid unwanted pregnancy) and which women do (the OK ones who use it for other medical reasons).---

---Mourdock's statement that conceiving from rape is a gift positions women as receptacles, not as autonomous human beings. This view of women as vessels – vessels for sex with their husbands, vessels for carrying a pregnancy, vessels for God's plan – is a necessary component of the kind of extreme anti-abortion legislation most Republican politicians support.---

You needn't remind anyone, because it's not relevant. No need to turn this into another of your ritualistic hate-rants. This is about the hypocrisy of CNN, not what everyone agrees were idiotic statements made by politicians.

CNN has actively aired the democrats' politicized faux "GOP War On Women" hogwash, therefore it's a fair criticism when their commentators partake in what appears to be sympathetic favoritism toward two disgusting rapists while delegating the concern for the actual victim to backseat status.

I think it's amusingly predictable that a liberal would mention deflection and spin.

Not relevant? Careful wording on your behalf by not denying it.

Hate rant? Just stating facts. 138 republican congressmen DID vote against the Violence Against Women's Act. Many ultra right wingers HAVE made stupid comments concerning women and their bodies. Maybe instead of accusing me of hate you could look at members of your own party and see exactly where the real hate resides.

No, I'm pretty satisfied with accurately calling out your ultra hate rants and leaving it at that. I'm also equally satisfied you're not the least bit interested if one of your own liberal news sources is guilty of demeaning a rape victim in favor of the rapists, as evidenced by your lack of attention to the point and the quick deflection.

Hypocrisy is strong in this one.

"One of your own liberal news sources..."

Nice try but once again you have failed. I have no news sources.

You see, those who aren't part of the "old man party" are able to think for themselves and aren't dependent on a particular news channel to reinforce/develop their beliefs or ideals.

So you're wrong. CNN does not = liberal as much as Faux News = conservative. I couldn't give two shts what CNN does or says, they don't speak for me or any other non-conservative.

You don't care about violence against women. In fact, your bigoted, racist rants support it over and over again. The fact that you are making this into a Republican only issue only proves once again how one dimensional you are. The victim here was the young girl that was raped by 2 underage dirtbags whose parents probably figured "oh well, boys will be boys".
