LOL if you think the CRC types are welcoming and loving to outsiders then you're either one of them or you're an idiot. It's part of what makes GR such a crap hole and keeps it from growing beyond its current size. The rest of the country isn't rude to strangers and they actually teach their kids to say thank you and show appreciation. The Dutch CRC types are only nice when money gets involved. Money they get from Jesus for being such good Christians.
You are spelling Christian wrong, it is Chri$tian.
We lived in Rockford for many years. It was a nice community but the GR mentality was somewhat present there as well.

LOL - I see we've awakened the ghost of Arctic and the usual 3 angry Christian-haters that just live for the chance to profile religious people while claiming to victimized by evil God-people.

You're right guys, GR is rife with angry Jesus fish-festooned minivans driven by rich Dutch people and carrying dozens of rude little blonde-haired demons prowling the streets looking for some innocent country bumpkin dirtstick to steal your chain-hitched wallet.

Why, you can't swing a dead atheist around without hitting a dozen or so Christians!

Best if you just stay away from the fiery danger zone known as Grand Rapids...

The CRC believes that they have a get out of hell card (predestination) and that actions mean nothing since they are already going to heaven. If you believed you were going to get an A+ automatically would you bother studying? They also believe that god rewards the righteous with gifts like Lexuses and McMansions with manicured lawns. I wonder what model of Lexus Jesus drives? I'm not against all religions and Christians, just the utterly ridiculous ones.

Really? I don't know who arctic is, I'm not an athiest, I did not reference anything about rich Dutch people. Maybe you like that label.

I simply answered the initial post. The problem is that when you live in a city your going to biased one way or another. I thought my opinion would be welcomed since I know gr very well but don't live there. I think I did compliment gr earlier.

Your intolerance is showing through in this posting. You can be a "Christian", live your life in a moral way (the best way u can) and not act like a self-righteous zealot.

Very Grand Rapidian of you and "really". Because I think it is backwards logic to talk about those folks who now their grass on Sunday and believe GR is far right leaning, I'm all of a sudden anti-religion....oh okay I'm a product of parochial education and my children are attending parochial schools and we attend church weekly. So, again get your facts straight w/out making false accusations.
DRC -> RCA -> CRC -> United Reformed Church, NA Presbyterian and Reformed, Orthodox Christian Reformed, Protestant Reformed, Willow Creek, Ada Bible, and possible Mars Hill, but I could be wrong about the last 2.
I'm not going to get into the inhospitable feelings from CRC, I'd rather not turn this into "my religion is better/worse than yours" forum. Anyone can read the Heidelberg Catechism for why their members may be inhospitable towards other religions.
So you "attend church weekly" so that gives you carte blanche to criticize every religion you don't like? Got it...good to know since I too put my daughter through parochial education AND I attend church weekly. Difference between us is I don't criticize other religions, in fact, I rather like learning about other religions. Try it sometime, you might like it.

And what you truly know about the CRC would fit on the head of a pin with 99.999999% left over. And you are a religious bigot, your post if proof positive of that fact.

Read Post #51 for starters. And yes, knowing how you work, you will say, " I didn't criticize the CRC". Yes, you did and have consistently. It truly doesn't matter because you have consistently shown your bias toward the Dutch and the CRC. Everyone is biased toward someone or something. Myself? I tend to be biased towards bigots.

Grand Rapids isn't a horrible city but it sucks for young folks. There really isn't a night life because the city shuts down at 10. Everything closes early. And on Sunday you minds well forget it. City sleeps at 7.

The bus system is flawed, but they tried. Meaningless construction. Kentwood has become horrible and the landlords and complex managers are very shady. It is baby-making central. You're 15 and a single mom they help you sit on your ass. If the father comes in the life, they cut you off. The city is weird. I was born here. Its good if you want to raise a family but other than that you'd rather live somewhere else.

There is a big difference in how people treat you in GR as well. I remember going to the south in Mississippi and never wanted to leave because the people were nice and respectful. In GR (particularly Kentwood) it is very prejudicial.

Kentwood has become the new GR ghetto. There's no middle class in GR. Either your rich and bustin butt ore poor and taking handouts.
Kentwood use to be where you went to move out the ghetto. Now it ams one.

I'm curious. My wife and I have been married 27 years and this is the 10th state so lots to compare. You said "Its good if you want to raise a family but other than that you'd rather live somewhere else."

Where else would you rather live? New York, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Mississippi... and why?

Seems to me that every place has good and bad points, and a lot of it is individual preference. I know people who love living in New York City. You couldn't pay me enough to live there. Different strokes.

It seems like all the folks who complain about Grand Rapids have two things in common. One, they never say where they would live instead of GR, probably because they know as soon as they did others would rip that place since every place has warts. And second, they still live here even though they don't like it. Spending years living someplace one doesn't like makes no sense, especially since there isn't anything unique about the jobs in Grand Rapids that wouldn't allow one to work and live someplace else.

Exactly. Remember, SeenItBefore? She used to post here all the time. She hated GR because one time about 50 years ago she got a ticket for running a red light.

The white population is mostly Dutch CRC, the Hispanic population is Mexican Indian, and Black population is low income.

Not very many Italians, Germans, Jews, Hatian, Jamaican, South American, or eastern european
