Makes perfect sense. The price of gas this past year has forced people to ruduce the amount of driving they do. Let's compare the mileage decline rate to the death rate and see how it lines up. My guess is that total mileage driven is reduced by about the same rate as fatalities were reduced.

These news articles need to tell the whole story.

Watch the death toll, rise for winter driving from 2007-08. they will probably be higher with the cut's on roads. Watch they will not mention that.

High gas prices = Less driving = Less Auto related deaths.

Or course there are fewer auto deaths. No one can afford a new one so they nurse the old one along.

Auto deaths are lower in decades because fewer people are working than they were in decades. It's not rocket science .

I just read an article in the Greenville Daily News were the Lakeview State Police Lt. was trying to take credit for the decrease in accidents. I guess this makes him look stupid doesn't it.

Gotta love this web site. Every day we see an article about someone dying on the road. Evan dies and 500 people post notes on the blog because they are trying to grieve the loss. The article is gone, but hundreds of people are going to suffer for years over this tragedy. Then this website posts an article bragging about how great road safety has become. Only 31,000 people have lost their lives in the last ten months. Heck, lets have a party. We aren't even talking about life changing injuries. If a new flu strain came out and killed 31,000 people in ten months, we would be turning the country upside down finding a cure. Where does the insanity end?

You need to read the fine print on the article and recognize the fact it had more than 2 paragraphs of details. This was not written by a Wood TV person, but pulled off the news wire.
