Well, I guess we'll send all the pedophiles out onto the street and see about locating them. At least having the landmark allowed for this type of crap to stay out of a majority of our neighborhoods. Now this will move into the neighborhood's where we live. People who live in these cheap motels will become sqauters in the 1000's of forclosed houses around Grand Rapids. So look out resident's, here comes the trash!

Well then there are quite a few hotels in G.R. we need to shut down then if prostitution and drug use are the reasoning. I have seen a few women at the Motel 6 on Alpine that I would have guessed were working women. Is the Walker police turning a blind eye to this because if a ordinary citizen can spot this surely so can law enforcement.

I think the government goes to far when it forces businesses to close.

Govt involving itself in private business again. Obama fires GM CEO and now the City has the power to take a families livelihood away.

I lived behind the Landmark hotel for over 5 years and the neighborhood association and neighbors were always fighting with the owners to get rid of the prostitutes. The police were called almost every night and they always followed the johns back to the Landmark hotel. It got so bad that we moved 6 years ago because of that place. Why does it take a new city clerk to get the job done of getting rid of them? The Land family are sleeze landlords wherever they own hotel property.

Are ALL of the residents prostitutes?

There may be homeless or mentally challenged individuals living there on a fixed income.

Where will they go?

It is a dive but what about those who have no where else to go? Who lives there by choice?

I noticed our city is really good at closing businesses. Not so good at attracting new ones, or helping existing ones, just shutting down the ones they don't like. This means you and I get to pay more taxes for the lost revenue from the businesses THEY choose to shut down.(remember 1937...in Europe...ANYONE?)

Great. This won't end the problem, just relocate the problem.

GR should be helping these businesses not shutting them down. The comments to the effect that this will just move the problems elsewhere is correct. GR has been driving these folks out of Heartside little by little. I love the part about they are going to let the long term residents stay until their leases expire. The owner is supposed to honor those leases while the rest of his business is shut down? How is he supposed to pay the bills. If an owner rents a room to someone who has several "guests" in an evening what is the owner supposed to do. Does the Amway Grand prevent that type of activity, how about the more upscale hotels on 28th. I just don't think they have thought this through which does not surprise me.

According to county records the Land clan does not own this hotel.
