sounds to me like the same old west side whinning.
Our economy depends upon people making and spending a good wage. If you people on the west side of the state had your way everyone would make minimum wage.
That is everyone but yourself. Thats what being a republican is all about, me,me,me, me, me. I don't hear many of you complaining about the bank bail out.

Granholm is a buffoon. She is clueless and inept. She is a puppet of the UAW, which is trying to rip off the taxpayers to pay for their greed.

i work in a factory right here in mid michigan that is a supplier to the "BIG 3" and all i have to say is merry crappin christmas! this is such a crappy economy i can't even buy my kid christmas presents. the bail out is a joke, because it is not going to happen and even if it did - it wont be in time. as for buying a new car or buying stock in the companies - where the hell am i goning to get the money? are you stupid jenny? most people just scrape by to have a roof over their heads, heat to keep them warm, and freakin food in their mouths. unless you are going to help me out with paying my bills, paying for my college tuition, keep me in a job, and make sure my son is happy - go screw yourself and get the heck out of this state jenny so somebody that has the balls to run it better!

The GOP senators never even intended to work to approve aid for the automakers.
They are only using this as an opportunity to once again attack the middle class working people in unions.
When it's help for the elite rich bankers, the GOP is all for it. When it's help for working people, the GOP tells them to go to hell. This is why they lost the election, they are only out for the interests of an elite few.

In 2007, GM sold 9.37 million cars worldwide. Toyota, that same year, sold 9.37 million cars worldwide. GM lost 38.7 billion. Toyota made 17.7 billion. Therein lies the problem.

All Big 3 are looking either way to use the UAW to screw retired workers out of pension funds/health plans but, we should bail them out.

If this was any other company the government would probably let them go under without even thinking about helping them.

The Big 3 were going to lay off more US Workers regardless of the bail out or not but, you don't hear Granholm or the Union mentioning those issues now do you?

If the Government wanted to bail them out then stop trying to cram pork on the end of the barrel and just approve a bail out those who cannot afford to buy the vehicles in the first place will be forced to pay for.

Maybe then they can take a trip to Half Moon Bay too and not pay their stock company bills either. AIG ring a bell anyone?

This is what results from the short term thinking of all involved:

In the Detroit 3's case, both management and the shareholders were happy to take the profits from selling trucks and SUV's, and ignore all indications of rising future energy costs, as well as the fact that Toyota has been successfully selling the Prius since what, 2001 ? I believe they could see this coming, and have simply ignored the long term results of their actions, choosing instead to take the profits which resulted from their actions.

Same problem with the UAW: they were happy to take home the large paychecks and benefit packages which they and UAW leaders negotiated, while ignoring the fact that other auto manufacturers in the US paid a significantly lower (yet still very attractive, IMO) wages & benefits. If the UAW leaders and members had taken a longer view, they would have seen this disaster coming. Does any UAW member truly believe that the company they work for could survive in the long term when people are paid for sitting around and doing NOTHING ? Again, I believe they could see this coming, and have simply ignored the long term results of their actions.

Certainly these are not the only factors in causing this. Government interference at both the state and federal levels have a proven record of failure, and politicians seem unable to take a view that is any longer than their next re-election. Yet, corporations and the UAW contributed large sums to those politicians re-election!

WOOD-TV8 is also displaying their bias here: by giving Granholm a soapbox instead of looking at the facts! The headline should read: GOP Senators prevent yet another bailout of the irresponsible!

As a Michigan resident, I am absolutely terrified to think of what the results of failure of the auto companies will be. But it is well past the time for those involved to accept responsibility for their actions. NO MORE BAILOUTS!!!

I don;t like the bank bailout either, but this post is about the autos. And its the libs that are about me me me. Hand it to me on a plate so I don;t have to work for it. Take from them and give to me. I deserve this. I am owed this. I am entitled. That is all I hear from the left. I want everyone to get what they have earned. I don;t however think that most of the people in the auto industry are getting that. 80 dollars an hour to sit around is ridiculous. Everyone from the president on down needs to take a huge pay cut to try and save this industry. Other auto maker workers make 40% less than the big three and they do just fine.

None of them make 80 bucks an hour. That's just stupid talk. Sounds like you're just jealous.
