What is the violation exactly that is causing the termantion of a 9 year vet of the force? Did he put the gun in the mans and that shot the fallen officer?

uh, Tim, i'm guessing the term for which you're looking is "gung-ho" ? and try should "have", not "of" ? or perhaps ESL.

I think Tim is trying to say "gung-ho", which is soldier slang from the 1940''s. Meaning to be so psyched out for war, a mentality, thinking you are bullet-proof.

Can't believe it - he was fired for doing more and having more courage than any of us in the line of fire.

Tim,

First of all...unless you've ever been called out to a domestic violence call and watched one of your brothers get murdered in front of your eyes, you have no business making any comments on the actions of the FINE officers of the GRPD. You commented that the Grand Rapids officers are scared to death? That is EXACTLY what makes those officers far more of a man than you'll ever dream of being. They will run straight to a call for help, even though they might be scared to death. Would you? I HIGHLY doubt it...you're probably not "gun hole" enough...

This posting is dedicated to the memory of heroic Officer Robert Kozminski, GRPD, Badge #89. Rest in peace, my brother...

Gung Ho, is a Chinese phrase meaning "work together", and has nothing to do with being bullet proof. RIP Officer Kozminski.

Criticism??? are you kidding me? I do not know about anyone else, but I hope my police department is "gun hole" when it comes to the safety of my family or anyone I care about. Society relies on police officers to ensure safety and stability for their community.

I think it is terrible to fire this police officer. Who among us would not violate the "firearms procedures" when a fellow officer is being killed? The only fault is that the police didn't kill Mr. VanVels before he killed Officer Kozminski. Shame on the Police Department for this action.

Tim,
YOU ARE A MORON, you probably "attended" GRPS. It show's, why don't you grow a pair and try doing our job for a day. You probably couldn't pass the psych or grug test. Don't comment til you have all the facts.
DRUG'S not grug. I caught my mistake.

I have many friends who are in the law enforcement field and respect the job that they do. It is a job that unfortunately seems to grow more dangerous each year. Maybe someday this will change, but until then I am thankful that there are still many brave men and women out there to continue to protect us! To "Not Tim" I am a GRPS grad and I am not sure what "TIM" possibly attending GRPS has to do with anything. I was also wondering what in the world a "grug test" is? I know he meant drug test. I just found it funny that he and his Kent City education are calling out someone and then had a typo.

I too agree with this post. Society today is way to lenient on dangerouse felons. The death penalty must be kept in play to help deter future instances as this. It will also help out with the overcrowding of the prisons. My grateful thanks goes out to all the police members of our community. They do for us what most won't do. Give them the respect they deserve and have earned.

I think this is so sad, even without knowing the full details of why this officer was fired. The loss of Officer Kozminski was tragedy enough, why add insult to injury by firing someone for making a mistake during a call like that?

I'm going to assume that the officer was fired for events that occurred after Officer Robert Kozminski was murdered??(Thanks to News 8 for their in-depth reporting btw) Perhaps it was "police brutality?" It's very unfortunate that VanVels didnít suffer the same fate as the heroic Officer Robert Kozminski.

Correction.

From WZZM13:

"Chief Belk said, "ďOn July 8th 2007 a 37 year Grand Rapids Police officer, a 9 year veteran of the department, discharged his firearm into the residence of 1233 Emerald NE. The location where Officer Robert Kozminski was fatally shot.Ē

Wood TV consistantly lacks solid reporting.

I agree with you, Michael. Even though that murderer is someones child, he doesn't deserve the air he's breathing at this very moment. His actions have affected so many other families and now have caused a brave man to lose his livelihood to boot.
