Your credibility is nothing, zip, zero...sucks huh??
If a background check saved one life, or two, or three, wouldn't that be worth it??

So background checks don't work according to you. Is that a fact? Let me quote this for you;
"The FBI denied 72,659 attempted gun buys in 2010, based on red flags raised by the background check system, according to the most recent data available from the Department of Justice. Thatís just 1.2 percent of the more than 6 million applications. The most common reasons: nearly half were felony indictment or conviction; 19 percent were fugitives; and 11 percent were those who had violated state laws. The rejection rate has been essentially unchanged over the years."
Criminals will always find ways around laws, but they did stop more that 72,000 from getting a gun who shouldn't be allowed to have them. Maybe the do work sometimes.

Your information shows people that failed the background check in error or not. It does not show crimes prevented. And how many were prosecuted?

You're the newsman aren't you? You started this thread apparently suggesting the shooters were under the influence of drugs. Lets have the link that supports your claim. If you dont have a link then shut your big mouth. All you're doing here is spreading rumor, lies & innuendo. By the looks of your comments on numerous topics lying, plagerizing, spreading rumors, & talking out your azz is your specialty. Havent you got enough to do? How is it that you can spend all day long on this site? You certainly don't have a clue what you're talking about. And who/what is this Jason you're always talking about. Seems you don't have all your marbles.

<quoted text>First of all, I acknowledged that it was a quote and then provided a link for you to look it up.

Second, you never asked how many crimes were prevented or prosecuted. I just simply showed you that some 72,000 were denied by the FBI. You want to find out how many, look it up yourself.

Third, please recall yesterday. I had asked you why the state of Michigan has background checks to purchase guns. Please answer me question.

Fourth, I am 100% for the 2nd amendment and gun owner rights. If you followed my posts, you would have seen this from the beginning. I don't want the government to do anything to the 2nd amendment, leave it alone. And just so you know, I have a AR 15 with a 100 round magazine among other guns.
I thought that's what everybody was crying and complaining about. We need these background checks because they supposedly stop crime. Please keep up with the rest of us! Failing a background check has nothing to do with stopping a crime. Prosecuting people that break laws would be a very important part that they seem to fail at making background checks a waste if anything good could come out of it at all.

Is St Steven's name Jason? Stats: BMI 23, benchpresses 300 lbs., liberal, worked since age of 15, no surviving parents, believes in legalizing marijuana in GR, does not smoke pot however (might eat it though), prone to somewhat irrational outbursts like Kelp guy, but Kelp guy likes to say azz A LOT.

Yes, your incapability to answer legitimate questions clearly indicates you have no good or applicable answers.
I'm not, nor did I EVER advocate background checks...I'm simply asking why anyone whould think it won't help at all.
I'm also wondering what alternatives you might offer...I've not heard one.
The root of the problem is how to curb the violence and death from illegal (and sometimes legal) firearms.
There's always lots of finger pointing after these mass killings but never any proposal as to how to stop it.
We already know what the problem is...just what part of some study do you think will be a great revelation??
Umm, I answered the question you asked me ... twice. How about answering the question I asked you?

Do you think a person who has been prescribed an anti-depressant at some point should have their ability to purchase a gun taken away??

I provided a link that showed where in New York this actually happened already. The point is, empowering the government to add more background restrictions to gun ownership is a slippery slope. You're obviously unwilling to even discuss this aspect.

Don't ignore the question - ANSWER IT, and I will tell you what I think a better solution to the problem is.

<quoted text>That is what everybody is crying about. Background checks never stopped a single crime. Never did, never will. It just makes it a feel good effort to suppress people from buying guns. But sometimes they do work.

Now, you have insulted me and others on this post, calling us potheads and such. When faced with a different opinion or perspective, you don't defend yourself but insult everyone. And now you try to make nice to me. Not buying it Robby. I still don't care for you. Wiggly was right, you cut and paste better than a 6 year old. You never give credit where credit is due. You never answer others questions. Still waiting for mine. Do you have an original thought in your head? Or are you just this pissed off all the time?
I know I cut and paste better than a 6 year old and I am glad you and the other pothead agree. Legalizing drugs add to the problem you potheads claim to be trying to stop. Don't try to push something that just wastes people's time and harasses law abiding citizens while not stopping crime and actually allowing for more crime and push for another thing that only makes more crime and irresponsible behavior.

You really do have a bg mouth. One day you're going to open it one too many times in front of someone in the real world who's going to make you eat your words. Then you'll realize you aren't as big & bad as you think you are in Topix world.

In fact, while the OWSers have all but vanished and the NPL (New Pothead Liberation) are doing us all a favor and shooting themselves ...

The Tea Party Caucus is back in action with a new strategy and a growing membership.
Roughly 20 House Republicans attended a closed-door meeting Thursday evening in the Rayburn House Office Building, along with staffers from nearly 40 congressional offices, including those of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and fellow Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul.
