The Haunted House was south of 100th St.
It was called Mr. Jim's. It was a very cool place to hang out at Halloween.
He also owned a pet store on Division north of 44th st.
I don't know if the house is still there. Anyone?
It's still there, I almost bought it but somebody beat my offer and later turned it into a bed and breakfast.

Dose anyone remember when the GRP was on Fulton just off Division. Aquinas Collage was in front on the corner. There is a alley next door and what once was known as Harolds Square Grill. In 1966 and 67 I worked their with my Mom. Their was a wall that divided the building with lunch counter on booth sides and a steam tabel at one end. On one side I would serve lunch to all the Grand Rapids Press employee's and on the other side all the college students would gather. Boy it got loud on the college side of the room. I was only 17 so I loved working there.
How about Polly Anna Bakery on Michigan and Fuller accross from the armory. We made all the baked goods for Eberhards and Roskam. It was owned by Eberhard.
I am surprised no one has said anything about the old Speedrome that closed when they extended 131.
I moved to GR from Detroit area in 1966 and am amazed at all the places that aren't around anymore. Not to mention all the farm land that is gone. Those were much simpler times. Teenage boys and girls could walk anywhere downtown and not be afraid. It was a safe place to be.:)
worked at Pollyanna from1973- 1984

You could be thinking of the Mousetrap that was across the street from The Shamrock - both owned by Sully. I don't recall him owning the Stardust Lounge.
Dick Leonard owned the Stardust. He then turned it into the Adobe. Both damn good places to be.
GOOD times.

I remember the Speedrome...my dad used to drive by it and tell us how he loved to get there. It was the forbidden place to us girls. I agree that GR is nothing but pile of crap now. We had it sooooo good.

Yep. I think there was one somewhere by Eastbrook Mall as well.
I grew up in the 50's and 60's on the West side. Loved Mathews Drug Store soda fountain. You could get a Coke for a nickel. The only way I would want to go back is if I knew then what I know now.
I'd go back in a flash...knowing or not knowing. Way to perfect a time.
