The Internet and news programs seem to be all abuzz over the full body scans and/or subsequent pat downs at airports. What do you think about this? Do you feel it's necessary we pat down three year olds and 88 year old grandpas? How about the scanners? Are you scared TSA employees will be laughing about your junk later?

Does taking such extreme measures to stay safe mean the terrorists have won?

Personally I don't fly. Haven't ever, and don't know if I ever will. But, most of you who know me know how I feel about invasions of privacy and Big Brother (haha). At the same time however I see the reasons behind it, but wonder if we need to be careful what we wish for....

Yes, they have already won. When American's flying in their own country need to screened to this degree, they have won. When all overseas air shipments have to undergo screening (slowing down commerce, increasing costs), they have won. When a bill like the so called "Patriot Act" can be passed without hardly a whisper of dissent, they have won. When we have bankrupted ourselves with two non-winnable wars, not to mention all the foreign aid dollars we now spend to keep governments in our favor, then they have won. When I need a passport to go to Canada and get back into my own country, they have won.

You two have only missed one point. So far they have been winning a few battles...... But not the war!

As long as we maintain the course our foreign policy has set, we will be able to enjoy the peace that Israel has enjoyed the last 60+ years.

We must make sure that we never give up on our hatred of the Muslims. They hate the Jewish people, and we must do whatever we can to support the Jewish State. No Matter what!!!!

yea yea yea; i heard all that s**t forty years ago. it didn't work then, and it sure ain't gonna work now. the only naysayers, then, had long hair; now you got forty-fifty percent of the population beating the drum. between the illegals here, the muslims in all major cities of the country, the economy we have, the largely dismantled military, where the only way we can muster forces is with national guard, it ain't gonna happen. like the chinese, there's too many of 'em and not enuf of us.

p.s. thank you for your service. welcome home....

Somebody's winning, and I don't think it's necessarily the terrorists. As long as we have something to be afraid of, a constant threat of some sort, our rights will continue to be stripped away one by one, and we will welcome it without so much of a whisper. Democracy will be a thing of the past.

Thank you for your service. I'm sorry to make you angry right off the getgo. That's not my intention. Mine is more like what Amazarek had to say. We're giving up freedoms in the name of safety. If we get to the point where we're no longer free no amount of death or bloodshed will make it right. You can't force smoke back into a cigarette and you can't regain freedoms once they've been taken away. Know what I mean?

Do you think it outside the realm of possibility that terrorists would not use a 3 year old or an 88 year old grandpa to carry out an attack if they knew the young and the old were exempt from screening?
Considering that they have used pregnant women and children in other countries, I don't.
Also, what's it called when you screen one portion of the population but not another? Profiling? Discrimination? Something people are also against

Actually I have two combat vets in my family, one marine with 3 tours, one army with 2 tours, so it gets said to them when we are talking about the wars. They agree with me. This isn't a battlefield war with nice lines drawn around the enemy and individual nations "on our side" or not, like WWII. This is battle of freedom versus Islamic extremism. There are no borders, there are no generals or fronts. We are trying to win a war like we did in WWII but unfortunately our new enemies aren't playing by the same rules.

And just for the sake of argument or play the devil's advocate are those fears over-stated in order to get more anti-privacy legislation passed? Ok, I'm not a conspriacy theorist so I don't actually believe that but so much of what goes on today in limiting our own personal privacy stinks too much of McCarthyism.

That's the one thing I thought of, yes, it is highly likely they would use children or senior citizens.

Many of them DID think that way. They just weren't successful.

This is a violation of the Constitution 4th amendment....... The detail these machines show is like taking off your clothes. The Machine doesn't look inside your rectum so there is a problem. Just wait for someone detonates in the Airport taking many travelers at once...... Or a School, Mall,Church, Office Buildings.........

I think so, at least a little bit. How else would they be able to pass such things with the public's 'approval'? One can hardly call it a conspiracy when the facts are laid out beneath them. I would go so far as to call it Orwellian, especially with all the new cameras on the streets, microchips in our ID's, GPS locaters in almost all new technology, when will it be when we are patted down to ride a city bus or a train? Or to hop in your car and go to the grocery store packed full of unsuspecting victims. With all the car bombings, train bombings, bus bombings, why the focus on airlines? Or are they just getting us used to this little by little? I mean, if you're gonna go, you're gonna go. By airplane, bus, train, boat or simply getting struck by lightening. But they have to keep this 'war' and 'threat' alive so this legislation can keep getting passed through 'for our own safety'.

I agree with you 100%. Like I said we must be careful what we wish for. We passed the Patriot Act without thinking. I too at one point thought that I would be willing to give up a small amount of my freedoms in the name of safety. However, one must wonder once all of your freedoms are gone will life be worth living?

What do you think we should do?
Terrorists only win when we stop doing the things we enjoy as a free society. If extra security or rules are required for us to enjoy those freedoms so be it.
Up to this time, not here or anywhere else, have I seen any good alternatives to the airport security measures in place today.
If people donít like airport security, why donít they start their own airline with no checks or security?
Iíll still fly the secure airline any day.
