I received the letter regarding extension benefits, however, the alternate number was busy and referred me to the website. However, the website did not answer my question I had.

Jammed phone lines is an understatement.

You have to file your initial claim online, but then you need to go to a local Michigan Works office to go through 'resume training' and then you need to call Marvin in order to get your checks. If you don't call then they assume you really don't need the benefit. And if you miss your week - well so sad too bad. Looks to me like the State found a way not to pay unemployment. Just try and prove that you tried to call and couldn't get through. They need to set up their web site to allow people to file bi-weekly claims there instead of Marvin. Just like it's name - Marvin is getting old and tired.

This is NOT the first time that the unemployment phone lines have been jammed. It is an average 30 minutes or more ANY time that you call there (one rep told me once that there are many times where she would pick up a line and the person on hold would have fallen asleep waiting) I'm wondering why the state doen not hire any of us unemployed workers to answer phones for the unemployment agency to make the "on-hold" times shorter and get even a few of us unemployed employed. We can ONLY hope!!!!!

The phone lines for the DRIVER RESPONSIBILITY LAW payment hotline are even more jammed. And it's not people wanting to pay their fine [TAX].

Screw you gov goober. As John Goodman said in the clean edit of "FALLEN" - FORGET YOU MY FRIEND, FORGET YOU.

You can all guess what he really said.

you can't even get through on the MARVIN # and the number you call to have your check direct deposited says that the phone lines are busy and they hang up on you and there is no other way to change it, CRAP is what it is. Why don't they take a few of the states unemployed and freakin put them to work!

well duh!

It's not just about Detroit. The auto industry employs workers in every state - including Alaska and Hawaii. More than 2 million jobs - from manufacturing, to parts, to auto dealers - depend on carmakers for their pay.

Ha! Who would think this would be top news? I spent two weeks trying to get through. Every number I tried all told me to call back later. Each time I did finally get through, I was on hold over 45 minutes before actually speaking with someone.

The first time I got through was the best! It was right at 4:30. All you familiar with this process know this is when they stop answering the phones.

Whew! I thought to myself.

After waiting on hold, then giving him all my info, I asked the gentlemen to make a change . I got no response. I think he thought he put me on hold or mute because that's when I heard garbled words like....

"Stupid kids on the 305," and, "You got $2 for that?" Or, "When you gettin' out girl?"

That went on for a few minutes. I then again asked him to make the change. He went on to say....

"I cant' cause it turned red. They have to do that in Detroit. I'm not in Detroit. I used to be, but I even know what the building looks like."

Oh boy, I thought to myself. So, I asked for a supervisor. He then went on to transfer me to a line that eventually disconnects you.

(That phone call only lasted 50+ minutes and was a complete waste of my time.)

Good times!!

Marvin,

There is a link to setup direct deposit online.
You request to make an account and then they mail you your login info.

I know one line that should be working, the one that rings into Granholms office. Call the b.i.t.c.h. and tell her to get off her lazy Canadian a.s.s. and do what she promised.

Someone should throw a shoe at her.

thanks Mike, apparently I chose a PIN when I filed online and I cannot now for the life of me remember what it is and I cannot find a place on the site to reset it or have it emailed to me, just keeps getting better. Gotta love it

Interesting. I notified WOODTV last Thursday about a
five hour delay with Marvin where the number was either disconnected or no longer available. Interesting response from everyone.

I haven't had any problems with my unemployment. I got a letter in the mail about the extension and I called on Thursday and I received my check today. My boyfriend on the other hand hasn't been so lucky. He spent close to an hour on the phone before he reached an actual person. Needless to say, he's screwed out of the past months unemployment. What a joke that system is. Right before the holidays too.
