Sad thing is they ran Gerry Chrane out of town on a rail several years ago. Looks like he wasn't the one they had to worry about.
What gives you the right to cast the verdict????

Whatever happened to "Innocent until proven guilty"? I don't believe a 15 year old girl's story when she says that he took a picture of her underware when she said it happened when she was at his desk in front of a whole classroom of students. Get real now!!!
We live in a world that is meesed up and no one is innocent until proven guilty anymore. We are all guilty until proven innocent.
I do have to say though that the doubt of people on here I can understand because of everything that has happened in the last few years with teachers, priests, day care workers and such. It seems like everyday there is something new to this effect in the news.People are going to start not believing until they are proven innocent becasue of all the stories about how this priest or that teacher was innocent. It is a sad day in America when we cannot be Innocent until proven guilty but all the same it is here and will probably not change.

I just don't know what to think of this story yet.

In my mind, he is actually innocent until proven guilty for this story. This is not like the cases involving Jeff Mata or Chillum.

This case would involve many witnesses, and that information will not come out until court, so I will reserve comment for later.

On a side note, I agree that many girls dress like hookers in training. My 2nd grader tries to get clothing "beyond her years" and I always say no. I also volunteer at her school, and once she's older, I will "pop-in" for random visits. I will make sure she is in the clothing I sent her to school in.

Something just dawned on me... How come the news can say that he actually did this deed? I thought it had to be stated,"alleged" deed?

Its interesting how this article says that the teacher was standing by her desk and the news story on tv says that she was standing at his desk, if they can't get that little detail right than I don't trust them with the big details.

First of all let me say this. The title of this article is wrong! Wasn't it just one alleged photo? Some one reported that he was at the students desk. Wasn't SHE at the teachers desk? Didn't all this allegedly happen right in front of all the students in the class room? Doesn't the news ever report accurately? Or do they like to sensationalize it? The news that I've read and heard has set in the public mind that he is already guilty! Don't they ever realize that this man and family will have to live with this inaccurate account for a lifetime? It will take a long time for him to recover his reputation! Now for my opinion on this accusation. I am a B.C. parent and I know this man very well and have for a long time. This person is not even capable of thinking of doing such a thing! If I were a teacher in this school district.I'd get behind him with all my energy because they might be the next one to be accused falsly! I don't know what prompted this person to accuse him but I suspect she's trying to get revenge for some reason. I think they are placing a lot of importance on a very flimsy story! Let's pray that this goes no further. caren from Wyoming

Now I am going to speak out. I am a BC parent and. I think this whole issue needs to go away. Mr. Sanger has only done what is in our student's best interest. I do not believe he would ever do something like this. I wonder what the girl's purpose was on telling this story. If she really thought this happened to her I suggest she seek to find out the truth and then apologise to Mr. Sanger.

I just love how the media tells one side of the story something is wrong with our world!!!! I happen to know this man and i believe in the end he will be cleared, maybe things didn't go right for her in the classroom as far as her grades are concerned and this was a way to devert that! This is a good man we are talking about and his family shouldn't have to suffer any longer.

The truth will come out in the end. My thoughts are with him and his family.

I think the girl is a liar, I'll say that quite bluntly. This whole story is fishy--things don't connect, and I know that Mr. Sanger wouldn't throw away his whole career to snap one shot of a girl's underwear.

I worry about his family too. I hope that they are doing okay.

Students testify against teacher in 'upskirt' case

Updated: Aug 15, 2007 06:13 PM EDT

By MARC THOMPSON

GRAND RAPIDS - Four students testified in a preliminary exam in the Kent County Courthouse against a teacher accused of taking pictures up a student's skirt.

The witnesses included the alleged victim, and one witness testified she saw an image of the alleged victim on Steven Sanger's camera.

Sanger, 40, is charged with a felony count of capturing inappropriate images. The Byron Center teacher is accused of holding a camera underneath a 15-year-old student's skirt as she asked him questions about a test. The alleged incident took place in June.

A Kent County sheriff's detective testified a search of deleted images on the camera showed an "upskirt" image. Police searched Sanger's home and found images on his computer, which led to the charges.

The preliminary exam was adjourned as prosecutors seek other witnesses.

I call bullcrap. The girl probably took the pictures of herself, or had her little friends in on it.

Think about it. If the camera was left out on his desk, anyone could have grabbed it and taken pictures, then put it back.

Do you really think he would have been able to do it while everyone was in the classroom and without that girl knowing?

Perhaps he didn't notice the pictures on the camera; I know that I don't check MY digital camera before I download the pictures onto my computer. I just put the memory card in the SD slot on my printer and click "download." I don't usually look through them right away, but take the card out and organize them later.

I guess you're all eager to believe a scandal. How sad.

I agree. Supposively it happened at school. Do you really think this could have happened with hundreds of people around?
Come on people.

I had Mr. Sanger for drivers ed, and as a teacher in class. He was not one of the teachers that I thought of when this first came out. I came up with plenty of other teachers who might do it. What he did was not right, but have you seen the way kids dress these days...I work at a public school. Parents should know what is going on as well with their child.

Four students have testified to the fact that he was wrong. In your statement you say he was wrong but then try to blame the child for the way they might have been dressed.Whether she was dressed like a hooker or not does not give him a right to to what he did.
I do agree with you that children need to be more aware of what their children are wearing and that nowadays children are dressing sleazier. I really do not agree that because of the way someone is dressed or acts that they deserve to be s e x ually assaulted in any way, shape or form. The way you said it sounds like no matter what the female would be to blame in any type of situation like this.

For those four students that testified there are more than four who can testify that it didn't happen, but that dosen't get in the news. You are only hearing one side. The other side will eventually get out. For as many rumors that go on against Mr. Sanger there are just as many people talking about those four students. I could write a page on this kind of stuff. I guess everyone who really knows Mr. Sanger and has been affected in the positive way will just have to sit back and wait this one out. I have seen God work miracles and I am sure that in one way or another this will end up for good.

"Four students have testified to the fact that he was wrong."

Actually, we don't know the testimony of all four students, do we? We know one testified in the preliminary exam to seeing a picture of the alleged victim on the camera. We know the detective testified to finding a deleted image of an "upskirt" shot. There's a lot of "facts" missing yet including whether there is any testimony witnessing him actually taking the pictures seen and found on the camera.

Reading all of these comments really saddens me. Sanger is an amazing coach and teacher. He was a huge influence in my life and in my husbands. I hope some of you out there who are making these accusations take a minute to think about how he must be feeling. This man has pored his whole life into the students of Byron Center and this is what he gets in return? I know from personal experience that the news is 85% full of crap. They say what they have to to make the story interesting - to make ppl tune in. I just pray for the students out there that are involved-- open your hearts to this poor man and realize that you can help save his reputation and his future by just coming forward and telling the truth.
