Oh, & thank you neecer, for starting this thread!:-D
My isp location almost always says Elm Hall, and I've never even heard of it! My provider is out of Greenville, so that's my guess as to where it comes from. I am actually very near to Morley and Lakeview. I would love to have some sort of organized support group!

OMG! I am sooooo in the same boat as you! I thought it was just me. Whew!
I can tell you that my children have just been diagnosed, but I went to get them tested at Pine Rest in GR because they have a specialized wing in ADD/ADHD/ and childrens learning disabilities. They do a whole bunch of tests. I was at the end of my rope before I had them tested, and I needed to go somewhere for help. 2 out of 3 are failing some areas in school, and are only in the 3rd grade. But started noticing issues last year and just figured that they weren't trying hard enough in school.
My husband works alot, and is never around. Basically, I feel like when the kids were born, I became a parent whose life changed drastically, and my husbands never did...and still doesn't. So that puts alot of pressure on me to be a single parent basically, and deal with all of the issues that go along with the ADHD diagnosis.
I have actually looked into shipping kids off to a military school somewhere, because I couldn't handle anymore. Once I found out that there was a reson for their behavior, and it wasn't me, I just sat and cried. I have looked for some kind of support group in my area to meet with other mom's, but there isn't any. It seems like this is something that everyone wants to keep in a closet!
I did notice though that Mich Chic(?) may be in my area. If the Morley area is correct? But I think a support group could be a Godsend, and some sanity! Just to know that you are not alone, and that what you're dealing with is normal for ADHD, and to exchange info.
Oh my! We have things in common! hehe
My husband ALSO works a lot & have thought the same thing about being a single parent!
Also....same thinking on the military school!!! LOL!

I think we REALLY need this support group to start!:-)

I think we are mostly all in the same general area.. I would love to get together.. I have felt very alone as a mom in this. The school has been making me out to be an over-reactive mother for years. It's nice to know others deal with the same thing. I have spent many nights in tears myself... it sucks. I'm in Coopersville and Neecer has my myspace so anyone can reach me through that.. I'm ready for a support group!

She Devil,
Even though I am in Morley, the kids attend Tri County School. I am kls3146 on the Tri County forum also.
Anything I can do, I am more than happy to talk with you. Neecere starting this WAS great. I feel like a bad mom sometimes because I get so fusterated with my kids. Its so great to feel like I am not alone in all of this with my boys. I have a daughter who is 3, but I am seeing what to me are symptoms as well. I bet she will end up being tested when she is older.
My boys it seemed were both right around 2nd grade when we had them tested. My problem though is that the psychologist who tested them, sent me the information, but that was kinda the extent of it. I quite honestly do not think he was thorough enough with any sort of testing. I feel I should have brought them somewhere more extensive.
I am really want to have my 9 year old tested to see what else could be wrong.

Mrs M.L,
Thanks for the support :) Its so great to have the forum for us all.
I am happy to just hear everyone's stories and know that Wow, I am not the only mom/parent going through this.
I have parent teacher conferences tomorrow for my 9 yr old, and I am not looking forward to them because he is doing so bad.
I did write my Request for Evaluation/testing letter and will be bring it to the school. That way they can test for Learning disabilities. We just know there is something more than just his ADHD. I am giving the doctor's office a call today to see what we can do to get him more testing through them as well.
Thanks for coming here and lending your support to everyone :)

Also, Michchic in Morley...I'd like to help you if I can too. Even though we live in the Lakeview school district, we are in Mecosta Co & do some of our dealings in that county (Big Rapids). Our oldest also went to Morley-Stanwood.(I don't know why my profile says Elm Hall. I don't even know where that is!)
Again, PLEASE email me for more specific advice or just an ear & shoulder. I SO want to help!
I will also post more here later though!
Big hugs of support for those who need it!

I am right here an in all for it :) I either need to be on my own medication, or have more drinks now and then ;) LOL
I would love to meet for coffee sometime. I have a 3yr old daughter though, so I would have to figure out what to do with her.

I am glad you found this site as well, so that you can get some real support and hopefully some good advice from everyone here. It still amazes me how these schools treat parents.
I was in tears last night, so I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes the frustration is so much, that I need a release like a good cry. Anyone else do this just to be able to get it all out?
I feel so much better just having found you all here :)

I think we should meet with the kids too. Have a little play date. I also have a 4 1/2 year old daughter as well as a 3 year old daughter.

A lot of siblings end up with similar diagnosis. As of yet, I don't see any symptoms in the girls other than possibly slight OCD in my youngest. If there was a diagnosis of Drama Queen, my preschool daughter would qualify! lol!

The best thing we can do is network together & find other programs or just talk about what rights we as parents have with our children's education.

If anyone has Yahoo Instant Messenger, I'm usually signed into that.

Even if there is no other diagnosis to speak of, ADHD should qualify him for at the very least a 504 plan. That's what every doctor and therapist and expert on all this stuff has been telling me for years. Too bad my school district didn't get that memo.(But I'm working on it.) I've been told to look up Wright's Law, and it does explain quite a bit, but it is kind of the schools deal to say they don't interpret it that way. Basically, the school knows that the parent has all the power and will try to blow sunshine up your butt, cajore, brush you off, patronize, and treat you like a moron. I'm just now mad enough and fed up enough to take it to the next level. I hope those of you with younger kids don't wait as long as I did.(My son is 14). Hang in there!

I'm going to have to start writing stuff down because the brain file is getting full! lol

There's a bunch of legal Q-n-A on that website I posted - bridges4kids.org - & it helped clarify some things.

Mich chic...HA! I have talked to you before!:)

Also, in addition to Unbelievable News' link, there is also http://www.help4adhd.org website that is very helpful. They have sample letters to send to the school regarding the IEP, and how to choose between the IEP & 504.

On the fly...thank you for that link. I have also been referred to you by someone, as you have been instrumental in helping them move through this as well.:)

You have it worse than a single parent, She Devil. At least people know that I don't have anyone to help me at home, and are sympathetic. I suspect that people assume that because you are married, you have help, which obviously isn't always the case. Hang in there; this too shall pass.

Hugs SD!! I'm glad you could join us here!

Wow! You are were busy while I was gone today!

The important thing to remember is we're not alone. It may seem like it at times, and we may be frustrated to tears, but we are NOT alone. If you need to vent, vent here.

You are all in my thoughts. I know it's tough, I walk that road every day. And today was just another bad day.

We have been getting odd reports from school (which is new this year - last year was the hell year). One of the thing was missing books from his SE teacher, so hubby went upstairs to see if they were in his room. Found candy wrappers and half eaten cracker/cheese packets under the bed. Come to find out, he has decided to get up in the middle of the night and help himself to his Halloween candy or whatever else there might be to eat. And he's also eating breakfast at home and then AGAIN at school, which is why he's going through his lunch fund so fast!

And to put this in perspective.. we limit his sugar, process fooods, etc. I make as many meals from scratch if I can, and that includes using mainly fresh veggies or frozen over canned. I never buy canned soups or sauces - always make fresh. I don't even buy boxed mac and cheese for heaven sake!

When asked why, he just looks at us, doesn't answer or says he doesn't know. And believe me, it's not because I'm not feeding him! You should see my weekly grocery bill, and that's shopping at Aldi's or Save-a-lot.

It's just incredibly frustrating. And just when we think we are getting a step ahead in the right direction, we end up take 3 steps back.

I'm not saying every day is bad, but we've had a run of them lately. And it just breaks my heart.

I know he was given to me for a reason, and I know I'm not going to be given more than I can handle, but some days it feels like it's over the limits I can take.

That middle-of-night snacking & candy hoarding/sneaking is what my mother is dealing with from my youngest brother (13...yeah we're 21 years apart). It almost seems like an addiction he can't help!

Oh I KNOOOOOWWWW about long runs of bad days! My husband keeps saying (about our 6yo ASD son) that he's gonna get kicked out...he's gonna get kicked out!
Lately, their biggest concern is how violent he's been getting. He spits on, kicks, & hits other students & faculty.
I just had PT conferences tonight...some good news, some bad...but more on that later.

That sounds like Oppositional Defiance Disorder, or Conduct Disorder, which is also associated with ADD/ADHD. One of mine was diagnosed with ODD in addition to the ADHD inattentive type. VERY FRUSTRATING! The kids know better, manners are very important in our house, but they do things like that sometimes anyway.

Neecer & jcv...thank you for your words of encouragement. This is why I need a support group of some sort! I always felt like it was just me, and that I was turning into a bad parent because I was so frustrated and angry all the time.

MichChic,

I called Mary Freebed today. The specialize in Sensory disorders and do OT, psychotherapy and a few other things. I'm going to talk to his doctor and let her know what's going on and see if she thinks it would be good to refer us there. Or if she has other ideas on where to go.
