Here you go Grand Rapids! The Fountain St Church was vandalized because it housed a piece of art that some disagree with. It houses a pencil drawing of a gun and participants are allowed to erase part of it as a symbolic act to erase gun violence. The artist claims it isn't an anti gun piece, it's only meant to stir the discussion of how to curb gun violence. Some Grand Rapids local idiot decided to spray paint and deface the church in an act of protest, writing something that has to do with second amendment rights.

So once again we are reminded that this isn't the place for art or even intelligent thoughts. From venue owners throwing away pieces of art because they don't agree with it, to this. This place is best left to the simple, conservative and the un creative. This is certainly no bastion of creativity. So go ahead and pretend as if this place is any different than any other piece of crap little fly over town. I'm sure as incidents like this continue to happen Grand Rapids will once again be the place where anyone with any level of creativity or real appreciation of art will stay far away from. As it should be. Conservatism and art go together like a rabbi in a room full of Nazis.

Judging by your ridiculous dramatic tantrums about GR and ArtPrize, and the time you spend ranting about it, you seem like an obvious suspect.

I'm just surprised that a gang of CRC members didn't try to spray paint clothes on all that nude art!

What "gang" of CRC members? The ones in your head or did you actually attempt to enter a church to find one? Did you almost burst into flames from that?

You're probably the red neck hick with the pickup truck that has the "Bowhunter" bumper sticker that did this. Grand Rapids? Art? Give me a freakin break!

When we want an art critique from something that refers to herself as Fart we'll flush!

For someone who comes on here just to insult you're not even good at it. If you're going to be a troll at least be a creative troll!

Come on, wow us with your creativity. Show us what a true artist can do with her trollish medium. Thus far you've been nothing more than a Fart in the wind!

Not a redneck, not a hick and don't even OWN a pickup truck.

And I would take this "art" over what NYC, LA, and Detroit consider "art" any day.

Another Artist forced to be removed after it was approved. If you read the whole article. There was a piece there last year, and not a problem, but this year 3, LETS SAY 3 COMPLAINED. Too much controversy after acceptable then denial. Feel bad for the artists that get into this.

Yea, I'm against this artist having to remove his entry too. The Calder has been used as a symbol of Grand Rapids for as long as I've been alive. The city has twisted, colored, morphed and mangled the image for their own promotional purposes countless times, so the argument that it destroys the "image" is bunk.

And for those that argue decorating someone else's art and calling it your own is ethically wrong, get real. The art industry is steeped in that practice. How many times have we seen the image of the Statue of Liberty "decorated" in an advertising, album covers, or magazine?

I guess if artistic ethics were the rule than those bears in the pools at the Ford Museum should have been removed last year, because they used the pool's architect's design as a backdrop.

Oh yes you're a hick and a redneck. The fact that you think Grand Rapids art is somehow better than the "big city" art proves that without a doubt! Embrace your hickness, it's what makes you, you! Not to mention you're in good company in west Michigan.

I live in the North dummy...... I have been to the best art institutions of art in this country and yet still consider myself a hick...... So what is your mental disorder these days? You don't travel much and probably receive earned income tax credit every year..... You seem to be a bitter moron with no class at all..... You probably can't even cook a gourmet dinner......

I never said I thought it was better, I said I would take it over the big cities. There is a difference. Sorry I didn't type slow enough for your slow thinking to keep up.

I feel horrible for the artist. I'm trying to understand why it was acceptable for a giant tire swing to hang there for a while (before Art Prize), and why it was acceptable to string yarn all over it last year, but magnetic, completely removable foam flowers aren't? Yeah, makes TOTAL sense to me!

Personally? It looks better with the foam flowers than it does as a metal blob in a cement courtyard.....

So it's approved and then disapproved, and then approved again (but just for awhile). Does that makes sense to anyone?

This is what happens when government puts it's big, dumb foot where it has no experience. Rather appropriate symbol of the bigger picture our country is facing right now.
