It is interesting to think of all the things to do with the money.....maybe...each county will recieve the same amount per resident?????...I know ...its me just dreaming....if it does happen that the state/counties get offered the funds...will it come with a required matching...I don't think the State has any...and most counties don't....It would be ashame to not be able to use the money......interesting that Michigan always gets below average $$ back from the Fed????

RE:'New Project'?
Hey 'sports fans', in reference to new Kent Co. courthouse, let's remember the 'Stimulus Pkg' is supposed to be about creating NEW jobs, not paying for ones already under construction. I'm sure you can come up with significant need without fouling the intent of the program.

Dang; grub grub grub,greed,greed,greed.....and , Western Michigan is supposed to be grounded in Conservative ideals. I detect 'leakage' here.

Zeelander on Contract Size...
You hit the nail on the head with this one. The 'powers that be' should review the results of Carter's (as in President Carter)infusion of funds into infrastructure work in late 70's - early 80's; where and to whom the money went, and what happened to many of the others.........that is, if they are truely interested/concerned.

Nuff said.

It sure would be nice if some stimulus money came to northern Michigan and not just the Detroit area as usual.

What does it have to do with conservative or Liberal???? How about talking about the fact that Obama wants to blindly throw money around and just assume that it will fix everything.

I agree - all I meant in my earlier post was that if that money is flowing, it would be nice for some of it to flow outside the big cities.

Where is Obama getting all of this money from? He is supposedly cutting 95% of people's taxes, but is raising government spending. A kindergartner could tell you that plan does not add up.
Guess we could ask Bush how that one works.

Maybe we won't get the short end of the federal stick now that Bush is almost gone.

I don't know about that. It was Michigan's own President Ford who took all the military bases out of Michigan, so who's to say what president will do what?

It is time to reinvest in our own interests for a while instead of rebuilding the rest of the world.
Like it or not, the only way that is going to happen is via a massive federal investment strategy.
Roads, bridges, civic structures will lead to a more prosperous private sector. It is a proven equation.
Bob,this is NOT investment in spite of what Obama might have told you. It's government SPENDING! If government spending were the answer we would not be in this mess - Spending under Bush has gone up significantly. This is just massive pork barrel spending sold as 'stimulus'.

think we will see much money over on this side of the state. I am sure Detroit will get it to repair all of their roads as they have in the past. You know the money is going to go to the people that elected him rather than where its needed. Also why does the government think that they must have the nicest newest buildings for everything? Why does every school district have to have a huge brand new high school? Then of coarse they need a new middle school, a new pool, ect. How many more ways can we find to waste money?
Very many apparently. Just read the 'stimulus' bill. We have a joke for a government - they created this mess and then tell us they have the solution? Which in many cases is more of the same?!?!?! When you hear someone from the government is going to 'help' be afraid. Very afraid.

I'm sure the 40% of households that don't pay any income taxes - but receive many of the handouts - are looking to Obama to 'save' them.

Any stimulus money needs to go to the thousands of unemployed people who are suffering from the current state of our economy. These peoples are loosing their homes and don't know where their next meal is coming from. If some thing is not done to help them out with some cash in the short term and with jobs in the long term, Michigan will not have to worry about road conditions and new courthouses because there will be no one left in Michigan to use them. It is very short sighted and almost mean spirited for Kent County Administrator Daryl Delabbio to hope that the new courthouse may be funded by stimulus money when so many of our friends and nighbors are without jobs.
What will handing out money do? How is it OK to force someone to turn over 40 or 50% of their income (or more) to turn it over to someone else? That's stealing in my book. Don't forget, the union in Greenville was offered the option by the company to take a cut in pay but keep their jobs. They said no. Now they deserve my money? I agree that building this court house is crazy but it's not even a drop in the bailout bucket they're talking about (and don't try to oppose it - just look what they did to Judge Servaas).

BigDaddy01, I agree that education and jobs are needed but it takes time to educate people and for much needed jobs to be created. What are these folks supposed to do in the mean time? I am tired of every one from the banks to the auto industry to the porn industry and now local government wanting a bail out when the money needs to go to educate our citizens and create jobs.
FDR was a great president and seeemed to truly care about our country and the people who live here. I worked in the home health care industry for several years. So many of the elderly people that I would call on still have a picture of FDR in their homes. Will history remember Obama as this kind of president? Time will tell. The only thing I am sure of is that history will not look back on George W as a president who cared about the people of our country.....unless you count the extremely wealthy and those in the oil industry.
I'd suggest you start with educating yourself. FDR's policies simply prolonged the Depression - and even one of FDR's top economists said that most of the New Deal was extrapolated from Hoover's programs. We've seen what NOT to do - and it's just what Obama has been saying he's going to do. Let's learn from the Great Depression not repeat it! I realize that many idolized FDR but look at the facts not the fairy tale. One of FDR's greatest 'legacies' is Social Security. It's the biggest ponzi scheme in history - it makes Madoff look like an amateur. He's left 'us' with about $100 trillion in unfunded obligations. Do you have any idea how big that is? The entire output of the US (the GDP) is about $14.4 trillion a year.
Snake oil salesmen are alive and well. Unfortunately to many people have no idea what they've just bought.

Very few Americans can thumb their nose at Social Security, congratulations you can! We only have a few days left of a president who can do the same, and has no understanding of those you cannot.

Has everyone forgotten so quickly that it was Bush on national tv not all that long ago telling us this bailout must pass and pass soon, like over the weekend.

It would be nice if they built a conveyor belt sidewalk from the food stamp place to the bar.

Then they can't take all my cash in fines and release me 20 times in a row for drunk driving.
