It looks like who ever get's to decide where the money is spent, they are going to use it for there back yard first. everybody else looks at it the same way to. I live over here, so these are the places that need fixed first,No i live over there so these thing's need fixed first. Talk about greedy people. Gee my roads are bad to, but me as a taxpayer know that this money, and project's that it is to be spent on needs to be looked at real careful. It is not like there is going to be a unlimited amount to spend. The way this plan kind of looks they are going to spend it foolishly.God help us if they do.

This country is in dire straits after decades of internal neglect.

It is time to reinvest in our own interests for a while instead of rebuilding the rest of the world.

Like it or not, the only way that is going to happen is via a massive federal investment strategy.

Roads, bridges, civic structures will lead to a more prosperous private sector. It is a proven equation.

Exactly. It's not like Obama is going to plant a money tree at the white house and give it all to us. He is going to tax us and then give the money back???

think we will see much money over on this side of the state. I am sure Detroit will get it to repair all of their roads as they have in the past. You know the money is going to go to the people that elected him rather than where its needed. Also why does the government think that they must have the nicest newest buildings for everything? Why does every school district have to have a huge brand new high school? Then of coarse they need a new middle school, a new pool, ect. How many more ways can we find to waste money?

We need capital punishment in the great state of Michigan. Then we could eliminate paying for some of the garbage in prison. Sometimes it is okay not to give the trash a second chance. I will volunteer to be one of the shooters on the firing squad, until Obama takes away my guns. The only reason there isn't capital punishment is because the prisoners all vote Democrat because they want something for nothing just like all the members of a UAW.

Did they not get it when he said "no earmarks"? These projects won't happen unless there is oversight to them.

I have been stimulated, thank you.
It was the tingle that ran down my

Actually ran down both legs, I was so
excited. Chris Mathews, I now
understand - thank you.

It does seem that there are some misplaced priorites in Kent County. How do new courthouses, parks administrative buildings, and salt storage buildings benefit the people. Or should I ask other than the people that work there. There are dozens of unused empty buildings that could be modified if the need is real. MORE airport improvements?? This is the biggest waste of money I have seen. As a pilot that flies out of Kent County, I can say that it is the most underutilized airport in the state. The airlines refuse to add more flights fearing driving down fares. Why do you think you can get better fares by going to smaller airports like Lansing or Kalamazoo. Why do you think the Air National Guard flies here to practice take-offs and landings. Because they don't get in anybodies way. MORE GOVERNMENT WASTE. The roads need help but the way the government spends money is worrying me. They put a chokehold on the automakers for a fraction of this kind of money but opened the floodgates for the banks and "stimulous" with no checks or consequense thought.

Any stimulus money needs to go to the thousands of unemployed people who are suffering from the current state of our economy. These peoples are loosing their homes and don't know where their next meal is coming from. If some thing is not done to help them out with some cash in the short term and with jobs in the long term, Michigan will not have to worry about road conditions and new courthouses because there will be no one left in Michigan to use them. It is very short sighted and almost mean spirited for Kent County Administrator Daryl Delabbio to hope that the new courthouse may be funded by stimulus money when so many of our friends and nighbors are without jobs.

Could we bring back mandated labor for convicted criminals and prisoners? Oh that's right that would violate their civil rights. I'd much rather pay to clothe, house, feed, educate, and provide them with entertainment,( tv's and exercise equipment ). NOT! Let's bring back the punishment in our legal system.

kritliver, while I agree short-term help is needed for the unemployed, handouts are not the only answer. Education and jobs are what's needed. Plus a fair trade policy. "Give a man a fish, teach a man to fish" etc. One good thing about FDR's New Deal was the CCC and WPA creating jobs not handouts.

Right on the money! We are rapidly sliding to an entitlement society; "I didn't have two parents", "I was laid off", "I have four kids", etc.

Let's see about these:
One parent? You are an adult now, learn from your past and move on; school, military, Peace Corps, whatever.

Laid Off? School, gov't training programs, and, finally, put down the Bud, spend a few bucks on postage or travel and get a new job! Leave the damn city/county/state if you have to!

Four kids? Where do I start ... never mind, you know where/when/how you screwed up (I hope!)

BigDaddy01, I agree that education and jobs are needed but it takes time to educate people and for much needed jobs to be created. What are these folks supposed to do in the mean time? I am tired of every one from the banks to the auto industry to the porn industry and now local government wanting a bail out when the money needs to go to educate our citizens and create jobs.

FDR was a great president and seeemed to truly care about our country and the people who live here. I worked in the home health care industry for several years. So many of the elderly people that I would call on still have a picture of FDR in their homes. Will history remember Obama as this kind of president? Time will tell. The only thing I am sure of is that history will not look back on George W as a president who cared about the people of our country.....unless you count the extremely wealthy and those in the oil industry.

Hey F bomb...anybody blow a bus up in TC since 9/11...remember Clinton had then chance to stop this before it started and chose not to. The primary job of the government is to protect it's people from foriegn aggressors. Mission Accomplished! Not to hand out more money to 18 year old biggest loser contests with 48 oz mountain due cups screaming "I can't feed my babies" and I can't work.

Exactly. Make them pay for their imprisonment by paying the a minimum wage to do state jobs. They can fix roads, farm, and do other actions while supervised. Prison is no longer a punishment, but a paid vacation.

It's nice to think of these projects as going right away....DEQ permits, Enviromental impact studies?????....the rules and regs have placed contracts in slow motion....the other problem with these projects is the size of the jobs.....only the big contractors will feel the direct impact...the smaller ones will have to wait and see if there is any table scrapes....I think a bigger impact would be more smaller jobs......
