We'd be out of debt in a couple of years...
Unfortunately it'll never happen.

Where do you want the poor to live then, Blue? I thought you want the poor to be "helped" so they aren't poor anymore? Or don't you honestly know what Section 8 housing is? I totally agree with no more foreign aide, especially to countries that hate us. But to put the poor on the streets with no where to live seems counterproductive to the progressive cause of making everything "fair". What would you do with the extra tax $$ you collect from the "rich"? Blow it on more politician's salaries?

Not that this would be the final solution but...one thing that drove me away from religion (christianity) was their refusal to allow my tithe money to go to LOCAL needs instead of sending missionaries and money to other countries.
I could not, and still don't understand why they would not want to clean up our own back yard first.

Then you've probably never been to one of those countries and seen the conditions that they live in. Compared to the poor of other countries, the majority of our poor are pretty well off. Our poor have shelter with heat, reliable electricity, clean running water, indoor plumbing, transportation available. They have TVs, cell phones, clothing, shoes (usually more than one pair) and food on a regular basis. They have medical care (Medicaid), their kids get vision and hearing screenings through school, their kids have access to being EDUCATED.
Of course, you can stop worrying about us sending missionaries to other countries...other countries are now starting to send missionaries to US.

Why do you always go negative? I certainly asked several questions that you could answer instead of focusing on the negative. And you accuse me of being a smart aleck? C'mon Blue, I was asking honest questions. If you truly don't care about the poor, admit it. It's your opinion and you are entitled to it!

I actually agree with you Wiggley. I have always wondered why we send money overseas first and then help our own? And it's not just religion that does it either.

We probably agree on more things than we disagree. At least that's been my experience. We all sometimes seem to focus on the negative which leaves everyone short-changed.
I realize and agree that religion alone is not to blame...

You are correct on one thing, I have not been to one of those countries and frankly, have no desire to for a multitude of reasons.
I think you paint a far too rosy picture of the conditions of the homeless and poor people here in America. Come to D.C. sometime and I'll take you on a tour of the places you won't normally see. The back streets, not the National Mall, places you only see because you live here. I lived in West Michigan for over 50 years and living here is nothing like anywhere back there...nothing.

Is that where you picked up your pot smoking habit? Well it sounds reasonable if you lived in the slums or trailer parks.

I think foreign aid and domestic aid expenditures require common sense decisions. Unfortunately, with a corrupt government chock-full of lobbyists (didn't Obama promise he wouldn't have lobbyists in his administration?), and bleeding heart liberals who think the rich should pay for everything and anyone claiming to be a minority is entitled to sit on their asses and be pampered, common sense is a fleeting hope.

The obama administration, last week, granted $400k to a university research on cigarette smoke-monitoring underwear last week. This after shelling out millions upon millions of non-existent taxpayer money to Syria.

The government is clearly incapable of fiscal responsibility of any kind. We could force them to be more fiscally responsible, but we voters can't seem to agree on anything anymore because we've turned our responsibility to vote into an "our team vs your team" reality tv show event.

Correct, I agree 100%! And now the left will say you are should stop all of it and just agree all the time with their side or you are doing exactly that.

You have valid points. I think this "you vs us" thought process, which I personally think is a politician's dream, is what is keeping this country from accomplishing much of anything these days. The only people that seem to make any headway are the politicians and the media and then only because the keep us at each other's throats all the time. Hope you have and your wife have a great mother's day tomorrow.

There's no indication that progressivism is going to offer anything beyond a more government-controlled radical form of cronyism, and ultimate destruction of our economy. Obama voters have had over four years to witness what progressivism brings, and it's a far cry from the Hope & Change rhetoric Mr 'Dreams of My Father' made it out to be. Whether they realize it or not, it;s the intentional strangling of American capitalism and exceptionalism.

Educated supporters of progressivism want divisiveness and a collapse of capitalism, so they can run unfettered straight to the socialist Utopia alternative they are attracted to like bugs to a zapper. Low-information Obama supporters voted for him because he's black - they know nothing and care even less about what progressivism is. Most couldn't even spell progressivism. It's the perfect storm of radicalism meets uneducated naivety.

The left will talk of how we need to come together and agree, unite and speak as one voice. But really what they mean is exactly what Rob stated - either agree with us or we'll do anything to eradicate you from the system.

It's sick and altogether un-American. Progressivism is like the non-indigenous species introduced to the Great Lakes that is now threatening to destroy the competition.

1-2 week's ago, you advised me to refrain from posting to you, and not to reply.....but, now it's all changed? I'm supposed to allow your partisan, mean-spirited bullsh*t?......My post was NOT about the poverty effect, it was about the taxpayer sponsored social engineering that goes on between our federal(state and local) government and our hardworking citizenry. If it has'nt gone on in GR, you may not be aware of it's longterm effect. I am even seeing it down here.....a village, Wellington....likely thought of as middle class, mid-upper middle class.....the place, where people work their heart's out, just to own a home.....a really beautiful community. Now, along comes the mortgage crisis, and eventually the fed's see an oppurtunity to help the most struggling of citizen's(often minority)....So who do you think comes in, renting and leasing any of the unfortunate homes and condos, with their Section 8 assistance.....But the real unfortunates, are the American taxpayer's who worked their butt's off, just to own a home there.....the payoff is, they now live in a higher crime, depreciating home values and a steadily crime-ridden community, among those fresh from the ghettos, and all because our leaders used our tax dollars to experiment in SOCIAL ENGINEERING......Don't want to live among the lowlifes of this country?...Well, we will just see about that.....

Why did you take my questions as "partisan and mean spirited"? Who is the one assuming things now? And yes, a couple of weeks ago I agreed with your statement that you were going to stop replying to me. You started that idea, I merely agreed with you. Anything else I would say to you at this point would be misunderstood, I think deliberately by the way, and argumentative. So let's just let your statements stand shall we?
