It's true, they are closing. On the bright side, no employee will lose their job, all will be transferred to other theaters that Jack Loek owns.

It's about time... I mean, how can they compete with Celebration Cinema and the movie theater in Rivertown Mall?

Nice. Maybe confirm with the company first?

...This just in-- WoodTV may be ending broadcasts amid shoddy fact-finding and subpar reporting.

Celebration Cinema is by far and away better than Studio 28. S-28 is one of the most over-rated places in Michigan.
All those screens and not a damn thing to watch. Crummy popcorn, too.

28th street is such a dump. I'm just glad the employees can be relocated.

Well thats kinda sad. I always went there when I was a kid. That was my first job too. Oh well its kinda getto now anyway more people walking around and playing games rather than going to see a movie. Wonder what will happen to the building when it does close? maybe a Celebration Cinema will take it over?????

Been staring at the projection bulb too long? Celebration Cinema and Studio 28 have the same owners.

They own those two theaters as well. What happened to the liquor license they were awarded?

I appreciate the historical significance of the place, I guess, but I can't say I'm sorry to see them go. Every Loek's theater I've ever attended has had almost unbelievably incompetent projectionists. Usually, they are kids who don't even stick around long enough to see whether the picture is framed properly, or in focus, because they rush back to the lobby to do their *real* job: selling six dollar pretzels. It's actually a rare event to get through a whole picture without some kind of problem.

Sorry, but: good riddance, and may all the other Loek theaters follow suit rapidly.

They did their homework first. I doubt they just decided to create a story out of this for no reason just to irritate people like you and lose credibility with the public, despite what you might think.

Yeah, agreed. Definitely good to read the story before commenting people.

I'd assume that the reason for the closure (disregarding the economy since it is still fairly good in west michigan), is just that they own so many theaters in such a small area that they probably weren't making much profit from that one. It was growing more run-down as time went on too so that may be it... maybe a renovation is in store or something.

Celebration Cinema owns S-28 as well as the two megamall theaters and the new one at M6 and Kalamazoo SE

It's called "urban sprawl". Sad, since I can remember a time when I didn't believe it existed in Grand Rapids, but it sure does now.

Glad to hear no one will be unemployed. I get sick every time I hear about another place closing.

Since we are talking about theaters...I was wondering why the Imax theaters around this area never seem to have Imax movies - the 45 minute educational ones. I check their listsings a lot, and I haven't caught one yet.

Yeah I know that so why dont they just turn it in to a celebration cinema instead of closing it?

how? WITH 5 OK 10 employees 300% pop and candy markup sky high ticket prices?

i GUESS lowering the PRICES to make more AFFORDABLE is NOT AN OPTION.

GOOD and good riddence i felt like they ROBBED then RAPED me anyway after i left.
