Thank you, Strong Woman! I'm not even reading past your post because you pretty much nailed it dead. People work damn hard to get themselves in shape. They work damn hard to pay for a vacation for that matter. Not only are some pathetic people envious to the point of begging the government to steal others' wealth, but now they want to tell them what they can and can't take pride in. What the hell!?<quoted text>
I absolutely think that running a marathon is a personal triumph. I can't run 500 feet! That is tough, and it is no big deal to be proud of that accomplishment. Just like kids should be allowed pride in their grades, and their athletic/extra-curricular achievements.
You say it's not sour grapes, in the same sentence as telling me how many vacations you took...didn't they have stickers where you went? If it really doesn't matter-then behave as if it really doesn't matter.
I am all about people celebrating the good things in their life, just like rising above adversity and getting off food stamps would be a great achievement for someone-it wouldn't bother me if someone would like to broadcast that. More power to 'em. I listen to Dave Ramsey sometimes, and people call up to talk about getting themselves out of debt...do you consider that egotistical as well? Any less egotistical than posting the number of vacations you take a year on Topix?
The spirit of competition and satisfaction in personal achievement develops over-achievers and inspires others to achieve their own goals. Rather than trying to better themselves it's apparent that some here would rather bring others down to their level so they don't feel the need to work at all. Exactly how do these people think they'll continue to live in the comfort America offers if all of it's people are fat, dumb and lazy?
