The definition of being expelled.
expel - to force to leave to take away rights or privileges of membership <expelled from college>

The part that states taking away priviliges of membership. These boys should not be allowed back. The had their membership taken away and should not be able to have it given back.

The Lord tells us to forgive others, and in order to be forgiven you need to admit to your sins, however from what has been said in the community, these boys and their parents don't see this as a problem, they think "boys will be boys". That is the big problem here. If they think the victims and there families are over-reacting, then they should try receiving the same treatment, there boys gave to there victims and then see if they still would say "boys will be boys"
EXPEL - To LOSE Membership- forever.

Well the mother of one of them is the secretary to the athletic director. Talk about mixed up priorities.

Yes, there is a lot of that kind of politics in Coopersville. I don't bring up too much because I don't want to spread rumors that might or might not be true. What we do know for a fact is that the victims have not been supported by the school system.
We know both perps and victims involved here-there are tight relationships in small tow.ns, and the school has always supported sports kids before other kids. In this case the victims are also sports kids so the school needs to step up and do the right thing no matter what last name any of these kids have.

What a crock!

Yeah, they got off easy! The perps have been given the red carpet too, I bet.

You people make me sick! Keep sending your letters. Makes no difference. The law is clear.

I hope they get to come back just so you people can all move away with the victims.

I don't think that they should be reinstated. Instead they should go to an alternative school so their victims won't have to face them every day.

I would add to that the rest of the student body might not be so forgiving of the perps either. For all involved, it would be safer to send them to other schools.

Hopefully for you, you'll NEVER be on the receiving end. But if you ever are, I hope people show you the same level of compassion and understanding that you've demonstrated in your pathetic little drivel.

This is the first case I have seen in years where a s.ex offense has been pleaded down to a misdemeanor in years. These boys already got more of a break than any other sex offenders in that they will not have to be on the "list". We don't like having sex offenders living in our neighborhoods or teaching in our schools. Why would anyone want them attending their school for the victims to face every day? Time for the "free ride" for athletes to end.

A friend of mine saw the police report. It wasn't just a one time thing. It appears that there hasn't been a whole lot of remorse either. If it's true that the coaches knew this was going on, they should be prosecuted as far as I'm concerned. There's such a thing as tolerated bullying and this has crossed the line from that into sexual assault. I'm surprised any of them would have the guts to want to show their faces at Coops. again.

I'm afraid that, judging by some of the comments in this thread about what the victims have been going through in school, that the perps are not being vilified in school. That SHOULD be the case, but it's been bad enough that at least one family has moved out of the district. The sad thing is that it will most likely only get worse for the victims, in that respect, if they are not reinstated.

Yes, that is true. The victims' families actually received DEATH THREATS for reporting the incident in the first place. Now I don't know who made these threats, but that's sick in and of itself.

The senior who had sex with his freshman girlfriend ends up on the "list" and nobody wants him living next door or teaching in their school, etc., but these guys are "misunderstood" and "just being boys"? Bullying is unacceptable, in my book, but this went way beyond bullying. I wouldn't even call it "hazing". It's just plain se.xual assault.

I understand that the victim has had death threats against him from one of his attackers. Also, Kevin O'Neil could really care less! He is pretty lack when it comes to being a compassionate soul.

Get ready! There will be more talk about this. There's been a lawsuit filed that not only accuses the coaches of knowing about the hazing, but encouraging it. I doubt that those boys will be reinstated at Coops.

The Coopersville Board of Education should now face a recall petition. It is evident that they bowed to media pressure with the vote not to allow the boys back into the school. What happened to doing the right thing and voting your conscience? They also bowed to the threats, lies and hate mongering of the "victims" families and brainwashed aquaintances. They should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. Several of them shed tears as they made the wrong decision. They knew that the boys did exactly what was asked of them during the last year in order to gain their re-admittance to the school. This is like telling someone that is sentenced to jail for 1 year, when they have served their year, telling them, oh, sorry, you have to be here forever. Doesn't matter that you did exactly what you were asked to. PS-anyone been served? Another lie??

So what if they go to a different school??? What is the big deal? Let them enjoy their senior year with another school. SO WHAT!

They weren't told they were expelled for a year, it was indefinetly. THat is straight from the school board so before you whine about it, get your facts straight. And the one kid is still harrassing one of the victims. I don't feel sorry for him one bit. That's not remorse.
