More likely, they were ignoring the actual numbers because they didn't fit with the "agenda."

<quoted text>And I was NOT attempting to address the causes of the deficit. Nor was I trying to give the numbers that Obama has spent since being in office. We have had that argument ad nauseum and it got us nowhere because we don't like each others numbers. I was addressing Blue's "Bush left Obama a $10.6 Trillion $$ deficit" comment. I merely proved, with 2 sources, that the deficit on January 20, 2009 was NOT 10.6 Trillion $$. As for us saying Obama should have been a "magic man", perhaps you forgot is campaign of 2008 where he said, "I will cut the deficit in half by the end of my first term"? While the left was so busy screaming and crying about Bush not keeping promises, you are very busy making excuses for Obama. Just to name a couple: gas prices (Bush was blamed completely for the gas prices), unemployment (Bush blamed entirely). With Obama we hear: "The President has nothing to do with gas prices" and "Bush lost all those jobs, Obama is not to blame for the unemployment." So, I dispute your assertion that you are not blaming Bush entirely. That is all that has been done for 4+ years. I foresee (to quote a commercial) that the next 4 years will only be more of the same. I have a new name for Mr. Obama,"President dodge and weave".
I got it now that you have been disputing the $10.6Trillion number.

I have said it before that Obama was foolish to say he was going to be able to straighten out the whole mess in his first term. He was politicizing to get elected. But I also think he didn't conceive he would run into the philosophical brick wall he has with those who's primary objective has been to destroy him.

His background was as a community organizer. He was used to having to find ways to common ground. And that has been impossible with these Republican/Tea Party "gangsters" that it's their way or no way at all.

I absolutely hold Bush accountable for the catastrophe he created. What is done is done though. That bell can not be un-rung.

On the other hand it is not Obama's "blame" for not being able to clear up the extent of damage as quickly as it was caused. Nor can he be blamed for the same faction(s) that caused it not wanting it cleared up so they can distract the blame to regain absolute power. I absolutely hold the Republican/Tea Party intentional obstructionism accountable for holding the recovery back just so they can destroy him. Now if the Republican/Tea Party have actually had a part in rectifying it, that would be a different matter. But they have stated quite clearly they want no part of it unless it's done their way or no way.

It could possibly be perceived differently but they came right out and said it. They wanted this president to be a one term president and they would do everything in their power to make that happen. They've also come right out and said they are out to destroy this president. Doesn't sound like people interested in the national welfare over their own ideology to me.

This has nothing to do with the "Obama hates military" though.

Yes you did realize "temporary was a relative term". You believe(d) the Bush temporary tax cuts when left to expire the way they were planed to were a "tax increase".

The article was written in July 2011. You missed the time context?

Now who's disclaiming which sources are legitimate or not based on their prejudice?

Apparently the only point you get is the one YOU were trying to make? I HAVE NO AGENDA!!! However, until you PROVE the 10.6 Trillion $$ number you bandy about so freely, I will be calling you a liar and a political hack. Google the following and see what you come up with: "the federal deficit as of January 20, 2009". In case you forgot, that was inauguration day for Obama for his first term. Then, google this: "federal deficit on January 20, 2012". That was the inauguration day for his 2nd term. Now that I have held your helpless little hand, put on your big boy pants and do the research and THEN tell the class what the actual deficit was that Obama inherited. I DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU! I also seriously doubt you have the intestinal fortitude to do it.

Lest you get all riled up and confused again, I am not trying to discuss with you the causes of the deficit, I am trying to get you to admit you lied about the deficit that Obama inherited.

What's being bandied about it is the $10.6T number which was the national DEBT at the end of Bush's second term. The DEBT doubled under his watch. The DEFICIT is the nations ANNUAL shortfall, while the DEBT is the shortfalls of all the years added together. The deficits that accrued during Obama's 1st term are not all his because much of those deficits was the result of Bush's spending and policies that led to the Great Recession which started under Bush and worsened appreciably during Obama's first term.

What part of that don't you understand?

I would argue that budgets for 2010 and 2011 were set by the previous administration. Its called trying to dig out of a hole built by the Bush Administration. We're still trying to dig our way out of it. Teabaggers can't seem to understand this.

Remember that President Obama's refusal not to double the military budget while he is in office can be grounds for........

Hate the Military!

Listen to the neo-con argument that our Navy is smaller than it was in 1911. Try to get one of them to explain whether that old navy or today's version would win if faced against the other.

Why don't they bring up the fact that the Air Force doesn't have as many planes as it did in 1945? Probably no difference from prop jobs to jets either.

Guess what, it doesn't matter..... Size and not Power Counts!

Nope, even though my isp shows Big Rapids, I live in Canadian Lakes which is SE of that town. I've always looked further east toward Mt Pleasant and points south of there. The few times I've been to Big Rapids, I didn't find much reason to return.

Grew up in Big Rapids back in the 70's. I don't remember that company. It was and still is a college town. It has grown considerably though. I was just back up there last week to visit some old high school friends. Looking forward to going again.
