Cash For Clunkers - that wildly popular cash giveaway program intended to give the dealers a much needed financial boost - basically left these poor slobs in debt up to their foreheads!
How's that Obama thing working out for you, car dealership owners??

I have a friend who's good friends with an owner of a dealership that's been offering the Cash for Clunkers incentive. The owner of the dealership said he's been given nothing but run around by the government and he's scared crapless that he just watched 100 thousand dollars walk out the front door (20 cars sold at the 4500 dollar rebate=90,000).

I'm sure that will really help the failing industry get back on its feet.

The other complaint they have is that the government only has so much money to give, and when they run out no one's really going to know until days or weeks later. The dealership owner is worried that if they continue with the program even through the end of this month (though it's supposed to run through October) that they'll end up being stiffed on the vehicles sold CfC style without the government funds to back it up.

I read that the NY Dealers Association of 450 dealers have pulled out of the program due to lack of payment. I wonder if this will be how ObamaCare works too?

When I was car shopping for my daughter last weekend, I saw a lot in the back of a dealership on Stadium Drive that was half full (30-40 vehicles) marked with the "clunker" paint. I wonder if they are getting paid on those vouchers. The other sad thing is, that many of the vehicles were beautiful cars and trucks that have to be destroyed and scrapped now. How is that more helpful to the economy than re-selling those vehicles or at least sending them to salvage yards to be used as parts? Who really thought this was such a great idea?

I agree - there is something wrong with allowing all those to simply go to scrap. Now used part prices will rise and in fact used car prices will rise too. We had a car that qualified and yes, it was tempting, but all it takes is a car payment vs. no car payment and I wasn't budging. The trouble with "who really thought this was a great idea" - depends on who you ask. Dealers were hurting and the GM thing stagnated the market for many GM dealers. When Clinton put all those cops on the payroll with gov't grants it helpled the economy - but those jobs are non-existent now. Does it matter? I guess where I stand is there are worse things they could have done with that money but I still feel like they over-indulged with taxpayer money. Just like the $8000 rebate for new home buyers.$8,000 seems excessive to me and so does $4,500 for ONE car. Why not give 1/2 the incentives and keep the car around - lower the values of used cars and help out those in need!....oh yeah that does please the 'green' people. In spite of the fact we all know these cars off the road will make no dent in air quality, etc.

Ha! That makes the list. Now they have two rules. See...progress!

I guess the dealerships were to be paid within 10 days by the government but a report I listened to this afternoon had two owners still waiting for their first payment. One was out over a million bucks!

If democrat-supporters can't recognize the obvious dangers in allowing a group that can't even manage the sales of a few thousand cars to control our entire health care system I'm not sure they have oxygen flowing to their brains.
AND!!!!~ I heard Obama compared his health care plan to the US Postal Service as if that was some shining beacon of hope for it's success. What the hell kind of marxist weed has this nutball been tokin' and why would anyone - ANYONE - trust him?

If it weren't such a horrible scenario it would actually be funny.

I'm not saying that the idea is ALL bad. If the object is to boost new, fuel efficient car sales and take a gas guzzler off of the road, why couldn't these cars be sold to salvage yards so that they could be parted out? Those monies could have helped to fund the program and the sales of the parts would be money back into the economy. They don't get much money for these as scrap, and it is indeed very costly to scrap out the vehicles (extraction of hazardous substances, etc.)

I really don't think these dealers are going to not get their money. And if the cars are sold within the time frame they'll get it even if it overruns the program budget. It's just when that will cause them problems.

I also heard of dealers that hid in the contracts that if there was a difficulty in them getting the money the buyers would have to return the vehicle or pay the actual cost. Return the vehicle for what? A car that has been demolished?

The program is being shut down by the end of this month I thought the news said tonight. I think they said at 8:00pm Monday.

Well no shit, that's what I said when they were starting "cash for clunkers" and posted such in another topix forum, but everyone thought I was nuts and couldn't wrap their little pea brains around the idea.

It doesn't take a frickin genius to know that if you trade in one car which is nearly paid off for a new one, "cash voucher" or no... YOU'RE IN DEBT FOR EVEN LONGER NOW!!!

What a bunch of retards.

But you know what's even funnier?

Most of the people who fell for this are still in debt for a college education that obviously was a WASTE OF TIME!! Aren't these people supposed to be smarter than everyone else?

Here's something else you brainiacs might what to know, the "clunkers" that people are turning in...aren't really "clunkers" at all.

Yeah...most are newer models that already get decent gas mileage turned in by people who were probably going to get a new car soon anyway.

"Cash for clunkers" did nothing to save the environment or get "gas guzzlers" off the road, you know why?

Because the people who are driving the real "clunkers" are people who can't afford a new "more efficient" car - THAT'S WHY THEY'RE DRIVING CLUNKERS!!!

So all the real oil burning, fuel sucking jalopy's are STILL ON THE ROAD!!

Helluva racket they got there you college educated morons.

Insulting everyone and calling EVERYBODY morons isn't helping make your points (most of which are valid). You obviously haven't spent much time on THIS forum if you believe that there aren't a large number of people that are against the introduction of all of these government programs and interventions. Bail-outs, Cash for 4-year-old cars so now it is time for me to get a new one, more bail-outs, government run health care, Cap and Trade. You know- poorly thought-out initiatives that help a few select people, but don't really do a damn thing for the over-all economy or the environment.

Medicare worked until Bush and Engler wrecked it!

And I prefer the government give money to Amtrack which I can afford to ride than give it to fuel guzzling airlines that only the wealthy can afford.

Cash for clunkers is just another welfare for the wealthy program too!

The Republican Senators group that spams my inbox better start feeling FEAR if they know what is good for them!!!

(Especially the Social conservatives who want to take my freedoms and make my choices for me...They are NO DIFFERENT than the Taliban and they all deserve to die a violent death!!!)

So true!!!

I expect the government to condem my rust bucket any day before it splits in 2 after hitting a pothole in the roads that have been ignored since the Engler administration.

The GOP doesn't need the public highways like the majority....they can afforsd their own personal jets. People who fly don't have to worry about potholes at the Federally "subsidized" airports.

(If you cannot afford your own cutomized luxury Learjet you don't belong in the GOP!)
