Okay again you are judging a book by its cover. Did you ever consider that they have internet connection at work. Or do you just judge everyone. I am a single mom who works full time and i can afford to pay my bills but that is about it. I believe that food stamps is different than being on welfare because we are not asking you to pay for our bills or anything like that we just need that little bit extra to help for food.

I would cut everything not needed in my life before I even considered a bridge card. Yet many of you whom have the card still pay for internet connection. Why not sell your computer?
For me, the card wouldn't be an option. There is work out there, some unpleasant but at least I wont be a welfare card holder.

I have posted a link for free internet service many times. Just that people are on the internet does not necessarily mean that they pay for internet service.

That said, the perception of what you think you are seeing at the checkouts is not necessarily correct. As another poster on here stated, more and more cash registers are now progtrammed to separate the eligible and ineligible items automatically. I have also seen people themselves separate the items themselves. You may think they are paying for everything with the bridge card, but that is not necessarily the case.

It is welfare, citizens paying for it believe there are cuts that could be made in other areas of your budget to allow for less expensive food items. I'm glad temporary assistance is available for folks in a bad temporary spot, don't get me wrong. Many see abuses in the system.

I have to agree with you. I was standing in line at Meijer Saturday night watching person after person using a bridge card, meanwhile talking on cell phones. Get rid of the damn cell phone and other amenities, then maybe they would have money to buy food!
When we had to use the bridge card, my husband and I both had cell phones. The contract would have cost too much to cancel, and the discount I got through my job made our cell phone plan cheaper than our landline. Not to mention I was required to have a cell phone for work or my contract would have been terminated and we'd have BOTH been out of work. We did cancel our landline phone service, and a myriad of other "extras" we had previously thought were necessities. Don't judge people based on what you see - you have no idea what their budget or situation is.

I agree with "mom in jenison" everyone (even me at times" want to judge people before they know the whole story. So until you know their situation or their back story don't judge a book by its cover.

By the way i have a cell phone that my job pays for and i don't have a landline.

Yes many people do abuse the system but i am not one of them i can't cut anything from my monthly bills. i have just enough to pay for rent and utilities and gas in the car. so how do i cut anything that i need to pay for.

I am not judging you at all, merely explaining. When you take help from anyone, government, family or friend, you are opening the door for them to be in your business with how you run your household. What one person sees as a necessity others do without that so they can by food that's all. I know folks who do things you might not ever dream of doing and have never had to have any help-----washing plastic lunch bags, tipping bottles upside down to squeeze out ever last drop and on and on. I've seen lots of folks that don't know how to save or stretch things out.

Yes - by all means. Let's have mandatory sterilization and abortions for all those who've ever used the public assistance system, temporarily or not. While we're at it, why not humane euthanasia for the kids - they can't pull their own weight yet anyway, and that way we can put their parents in forced labor camps. You know, the elderly, disabled, and mentally ill also create a drain on our perfect society - let's get rid of them too. And maybe anyone who doesn't agree with the message of the government - they only create discontent and dissension anyway...

Oh my, we've reverted to Nazi Germany, haven't we? How did that happen?

I feel your pain, Heather. My husband's ex-wife is a deadbeat who only pays her child support when she's going to try suing for custody again. On the other hand - it does give us a nice heads-up when she suddenly gets all caught up...

Ignore idiots like catmando and stay focused on what is important - bringing up your kids.

Those your kids in your avatar? If so, at what child did you decide you should start keeping the ole crottch closed due to their dad being a dead beat?

I understand people needing aid for temporary relief. However, you sit there and justify you and your kids regular need of it. Heck, now its part of YOUR budget. Why don't people like you RATHER justify that your situation needs fixing. Fix the lifestyle and turn such aid into the temporary relief it should be.

Okay only two of them are mine, there you go again passing judgement. I don't understand what your issue with me having food stamps anyway i pay the taxes that go into it so why shouldn't i be able to use it. If they didn't tax me so much maybe i wouldn't need it, it isn't like i am just sitting on my A S S not doing anything like some of the other people are (the ones who abuse the system) i hope some day you need help and it isn't there for you.

How interesting. We only needed the bridge card for a matter of months, which, to be frank, is really none of your business. Above you stated that you understood using the system for "temporary relief." Now I'm a parasite. Make up your mind. Out of curiousity, did I switch from being "okay" to a "parasite" when I disagreed with you?

Does being offensive and stupid come naturally to you, or do you have to work at it?

Stop justifying yourself to be a victim of yes, your loser ex. Don't accept this is your fate forever. Educate yourself further. Go on a limb, put faith in yourself and shoot for employment that might help you through YOUR OWN efforts and talent (either where you currently work or elsewhere). Note, this stuff won't happen over night. You have to be patient; however you at least have to have the PLAN and some momentum going that way.

Funny how you victims call truth and good advice evil spew. I'll leave you alone now seeing that you'd rather continue on as a poor me victim and parasite. Apparently there is no hope in your case. Your right - give up - keep living off your fellow man / woman all in the name of "i'm paying into it, why can't I".

Your welcome (for tonights, tommorrows, the next day, the day after that, etc.... meals). I hope you can squeeze some Chinese food in there too - since it makes you happy.
