Throw these people out of the country. I watched their news conference today, where they compared Guantanamo to Iran. Huge difference - Guantanamo detains known terrorists and mass murderers, while Iran persecutes and tortures Christians and people expressing their political beliefs and also these "hikers." It's pathetic that these people came back to the very country in which they are citizens and which just secured their freedom and just bashed its foreign policy. I think the US government should have just let them rot in prison in Iran.

They say they accidentally entered Iran while walking near the border of a neighboring country. I personally think they knew exactly where they were. My belief is that they had sophisticated GPS systems and just wanted to experience what it would be like to walk on what they considered holy ground. A pilgrimage to Mecca for them as it were. And even though the news has been reporting that the Shah of whatever country it was that paid their bails of a half a million dollars each, I am sure that is nothing more than window dressing like when Clinton arranged for the release of the prisoner from North Korea, or the woman from the University of Michigan who was released for ransom that was being held in Iraq. We are sending a fortune in aid to these countries, and they are using these opportunities to show how compassionate they are, when actually they wouldn't spend a dime of their own money to secure the release of one of our political prisoners. They hate Jews, want to eradicate them from the face of the Earth, and they hate the United States because we have insisted on being the last ally of Israel. And unfortunately that alliance appears to be nothing more than a public relations ploy for the United States if you look at the ineffectual, and unsupportable position we have taken on the situation. The United Nation’s security council will entertain a resolution to grant statehood to Palestine Monday, and barring a veto from the United States it will be successful. Either way, they will surely achieve casual observer status from the general assembly, as when Ahmidinejad delivered his speech last week, only 30 nations of the 191 member nations left the auditorium. How do you negotiate with a country like Palestine when they will not even recognize your right to exist before you go to the bargaining table? These three radical little punks should have been left to rot in jail, just as the person that started this thread suggested. They hate what the symbol of America stands for. The only problem with their “Global Brotherhood” stance is, that even though the majority of the world agrees on a position, that doesn’t make it right. Like my mom used to say,“If every one jumped off a bridge, would you jump off as well“?

The situation surrounding all of these political prisoners we have changed course on and started negotiating with terrorists to gain their release just encourages the terrorists further to take people hostage. And whether we think it is consequential, the people in the Middle East don't have a free press, they have Al Jazeera. They are swallowing the garbage being fed to them hook, line, and sinker. And if you don't think it is important what the rest of the world thinks about us, think again. This stupid "Global Brotherhood" movement has created a "Global Economy", and that is evidenced by the fluctuation in the stock market, as it is being influenced by the stability of various governments in Europe. With their financial viability in serious question, the global banking system is experiencing shock waves trying to perpetuate a system of spending even more money to pay of unfunded debt in a perpetual cycle. So if you don't make this cause viral, like start screaming about it on this thread, and others like it, SHUT UP when your retirement portfolios disappear.

Three clowns backpacking along the Iraq/Iran border in war zone. It's too bad we didn't get a chance to lock them up first. Not a huge surprise that they are Berkley grads. Their parents raised them stupid and they got stupider by going to Berkley.

Berkley grads, figures. Isn't California where the acid head Timothy Leary hung out?

Who in their right mind would decide to go hiking on the Iran/Iraq (or wherever) border in the first place?
Isnt there enough places right here in the good old USA to go for a hike?
I dont feel sorry for them at all.
Didnt they have GPS, and know where they were?
Dang hippies anyway's!
They were probably just looking for a place to grow some pot.

That's a good one, "grow some pot". You're right though, wouldn't you think, being as popular as Americans are in the Middle East right now, a sane person would stay as far away from there as possible for fear of being shot?

There is a joke in the technology community that goes "2 things came out of USC Berkley in the 60's. LSD and UNIX. We don't believe this to be a coincidence."

Yeah,... doesnt it make you wonder what these people were thinking?
If you really need to go for a "hike" why would you choose Iran to do it in?
That would not be my first choice!

Hey there Dr...how are ya???
I agree, somebody made 1.5 million on the deal, for all three bailouts...and someone else was dumb enough to shell out that 1.5 million. Almost sounds like a scam...

I think I heard something like once in a while Iran considers releasing people for "compassionate" reasons. Kind of sounds like the people in the Bible deciding whether Jesus or Barabas should be released. Real compassionate, about as compassionate as requiring a million and a half in ransom (oops, bail).

These "hikers" are just a bunch of spoiled children from UCLA-Berkley. I say ship them back to Iran and let them be water-boarded.
