I can't stand the smell of cheap perfume or cologne. I want it banned NOW in all public places so I don't get a headache every time I am forced to smell it.

It doesn't give me a headache, but it does make me sick to my stomach. I can handle the smell of a manure shed on a farm, but those sickly sweet smelling perfumes are BAD!

So I want the legislature to pass a bill, and the governor to sign into law, a TOTAL BAN on the use of Perfume and Cologne in all public places. Just what deadly chemicals am I breathing in from that sickly smell that perfume gives off?

That's how I know about the filth there. It will be nice to be able to go there to eat again because I really love their food. While traveling we have enjoyed plenty of nice meals in other Applebees in parts of the country where clean air is already a priority. So glad Michigan has finally come to their senses. I totally support your decision not to patronize the Holland Applebee's again. That's what people should do when they find an establishment to be too smokey for them...better yet not to go in at all if smoking is allowed. However, the marketplace was creating/had created many smoke free restaurants already. For the government to create a marketplace that totally excludes smokers is absolutey wrong. The free and open marketplace, if allowed to take its course, would have created both smoking and non smoking facilities for all to enjoy.

Can't even go into a department store without smelling all the perfumes and cologne mixed together. That makes more sense to me then the smoking ban. People stop taking a bath in your favorite cologne/perfume you are giving me a headache.

I was starting to wonder how many people had BRAINS left that they were actually using. The marketplace has already begun to swing in the direction of non-smoking restaurants. I still have not gotten a rational response from anyone to the question that I keep asking. Why should a business owner not be able to choose what group of people they want to cater to? How dare our government officials who are too stupid to figure out how to balance a budget, tell hard working business owners how to run their businesses. Many places have gone smoke-free that is their right. Why is it not the right of other businesses to allow smoking? I don't smoke, but I find it disgusting that people support legislation that forces a business owner to lose customers, especially in our "wonderful" MI economy. Oh yeah Ms. Granholm...I am blown away by your promise to sign a bill into law that will take away the rights of business owners.

Too bad we have all these morons out there who think it is up to the government to "take care of us." Yeah, Hitler banned a lot of stuff too. Just wait until they come for something the "antis" care about. I bet they bitch and moan about their religious freedom, and not being able to pray in schools...why is your right to pray more important than a business owner's right to make money?

When I pass someone with it on, in any store, my lips and tongue burn and if I can't get away from them- I start to wheeze and get a headache that can last for 2 or 3 days.(I've actually had to miss work because of it).The smell gets stuck in my sinuses or something. I still smell it 2 days later. I came home from Christmas shopping one year looking like I'd been beaten. Between the perfume and the leather in the stores, it was torture. If only these people knew how bad they smell and how much they hurt other people, surely they wouldn't wear that stuff. And just my luck, the more expensive it is, the worse it bothers me.

If I may ask, why don't you smoke in your own home? Smoker wrote: I think the government is going too far. I am a smoker but I do not smoke in my home, or in restaurants. It doesn't bother me to wait and hour or two to have a smoke. I think most smokers respect non-smokers rights. I wish non-smokers would respect my rights. I enjoy smoking. If you don't like it. TOUGH!

Awesome wrote: I think it is AWESOME that the ban finally passed! As a owner of a bar in MI for over 13 years. I am tired of burn holes, a fire, second hand smoke, buying expensive filtration systems, having our non smoking employees breath smoke in every day, everything turning yellow...I could go on but there is not enough room. Great job MI! It is about time! If you hated it so much why didn't you make it smoke free yourself? Afraid to stand out alone? So afraid to do something yourself so you join in with your whining so everyone has to do it. How selfish and cowardly.

I'm so sick of the whining self rightous conservative do-gooders who think their on a mission from god to save us all the evil smokers and all the other vices that are just totally destroying their perfect little worlds they live in. Well why don't you just stay in your perfect little universe and just pretend the rest of the world doesn't exist and leave the rest of us alone, we will be fine.

well you anti smokers are costing me a lot of money. my boss was forced to go smoke free, now none of my customers come in after 3erd shift, so my tips went down the tubes. all your excuses for imposing your will on others is BS, now you can pay for my food because I'm going to apply for WIC and welfare. I haven't lost my job so I'm not eligible for unemployment. you use the excuse that smoking harms children, when you have the choice to go to a smoke free restaurant, well my children are currently hungry, thank you so much for your concern. it wasn't enough to have a balance of smoke free restaurants, you needed them all to fit your needs, screw everyone else, again thank you so much. i don't think you will mind me collecting welfare, you seem to want people Dependant on the state anyway, i believe its called socialism. OK you win. the socialists have won, and never once really calling them selfs what they really are, they hid behind a non threating name- liberal democrats. thank you so much for caring so much. I'm so happy i no longer need to think for myself or work to feed myself, I'm a member of the nanny state of Michigan where hard work is dead and freedom died with it. thank you for caring so very very much.

This is all so hypocritical! Why don't they just shut down all of the big tobacco companies?! Ban them for producing and making money off the product that is addicting and killing people. Why bother the poor people who are smokers? They didn't realize when they started what they would become-but the big tobacco companies encouraged their addiction. They should have to pay for all of the time and money spent putting new laws into effect. They should also have to pay extra taxes not the consumers. People just aren't thinking clearly about any of this!

Wow hot topic. Such passion from both sides of the fence. I say. Disobey this law. Maybe smokers and non smokers can take care of the problem by slugging it out.
