They are providing information as it comes and it can take hours before they have the whole story. Fortunately, it is not a family or friend of mine. Hope the 42yr old woman whom is in critical condition makes it.

Algoma is a treacherous road. I know I live on it. I say a little prayer everytime I pull in or pull out of my driveway. Cars and motorcycles go way to fast. They pass each other in no passing zones. There is only one stop sign on Algoma from 13 Mile all the way up to 17 Mile. There have been numerous accidents with serious injuries and even some deaths. I have made several phone calls over the years and begged the Sheriff's office to come and sit in my driveway and start pulling people over, with no results. I also will be praying for this woman and her family.

Algoma avenue. I've been down that road before and it is a doozey. People are in too much of a hurry nowadays, not like when I was their age. I synthasize with the neighborhoods. Speedbumps have helped alot in some of the very worst racetracks in the big GR. Think about it befoe it's too late for our chidren's sake.

I just came in to say something snarky about people driving too fast, but I see someone has already done that. Then I thought I would say something snarky about WOOD, but I have been beaten to that as well. Someone has even posted something completely unrelated to the story, which is usually my fallback when the first two are taken. Hmmm...let's see, someone wrote "synthasize" instead of sympathize, and even spelled it wrong, I could snark at that. Nah, too easy. I guess I will take the only course left...

The problem is not that people are driving too fast. They are, but why? I believe the answer is that our road infrastructure in Kent County is, and always has been, 20 years behind. We have more traffic than the roads can handle, so they fall apart faster than we can fix them. This forces people off main arteries, which generally flow at a faster rate, and on to smaller side roads like Algoma. The change in route adds time to the commute, which people are trying to make up by travelling faster. This is a stupid thing to do, I agree. But if the people running this county got rid of the thrifty Dutch mentality and spent the money on putting people who drive without licenses in jail and building enough road to handle the current traffic load plus expected traffic increases for the next 20 years, rather than spending the money on things like a billion dollar Hemorrhoid Center, the traffic problems we have would be drastically reduced and both money and lives would be saved.

Sounds like she ran the stop sign at Algoma and 14 Mile. Either that, or she thought she had room to zip in front of the boat-tower.

We all should pray for the womans recovery.
There is a STOP sign at that intersection and either she didn't stop or made a terrible judgement
about the other drivers speed. As he was towing a
boat, I doubt he was doing 70 mph or anything crazy
like that. Also, wouldn't drivers be more cautious
if no-fault insurance was abolished. Forty-six states think so!!(maybe its 53 states if you listen to Barak Odumba.

To Mr Obvious - if you were familiar w/ the area you would know that Algoma and 14 Mile Rds. are hardly "congested" even on a good day. They are simply country roads that people travel on. And at 7:45 last night I doubt the local woman was commuting nor the other driver towing a bout so not an infrastructure issue at least in this area. The simple fact in this tragic accident was driver error. You can build all the new roads in the world and put up a traffic signal every mile or at every cross roads but you can't fix driver error. Our taxpayers dollars would be much better spent maintaining the roads that we all ready have.
Thoughts and prayers to the families.

The accident happened on 14 Mile - near Algoma! Algoma being treacherous had nothing to do with this accident.

What you wanna bet the driver towing the boat....was driving drunk or intoxicated....that seems to be the driving cause of accidents lately it couldn't be because it was just an accident....hmmm the thought of that just doesn't fit

actually the accident was at Algoma and 14 mile right in the intersection. I was there when they landed the AeroMed in my church parking lot just down the road as they had no where else to safley land!
